MY EXPERIENCE: The Sunfire True Sub MK II is an incredible auditory experience. I feed all of our sound sources (DVD, TV, VCR, camcorder, and tape deck) through the 6.1 channel system, and the base sound is an awesome experience. Movies (DVD and to slightly lesser extent, VHS) have thunderous, theater-like, rock solid deep bass. Music base is equally impressive, with low bass far beneath typical home theater systems.
WHY I BOUGHT THE SUNFIRE: I am an audiophile who has pushed his wife to her limits in buying audio equipment over 30 years of marriage. I spent six months researching and listening to sound systems, and particularly subwoofers, before buying the Sunfire True Subwoofer in January 2004. I have been looking for an audio system which would push to the lowest limits of human hearing (18Hz), rock the floor, and vibrate the furniture (when necessary). My old system (ADS Braun, $2000 in today's money), only took me down to 37Hz. The Sunfire takes me more than an octave below and pushes me into the sub-sonic zone.
I listened to dozens of the best subwoofers in modest-tech stores (Best Buy, Circuit City) and solid-tech stores (Ultimate Electronics, Tweeter), and bought Ultimate Electronics most expensive, premium, best-sounding, and highest rated product: The Sunfire Mk II.
One of the key reasons for buying the Sunfire was the advice given me by Scott Carpenter, a professional video-audio expert who sells and installs home theater systems priced at up to $100,000 per system. Scott now operates a business in Los Vegas and well knows the difference between true high fidelity and moderate fidelity. Scott's opinion, "The Sunfire will give you the most bass auditory value for the dollar. You are buying a high quality, high performance system, which will give you tremendous pleasure."
PROS: This subwoofer "blew the rest away" in my sound tests with its (a) solid, musically accurate base, (b) thunderous movie sound, (c) small size, so my wife loves its "almost invisible presence", and (d) ability to treat bass from "gentle" to "horrific".
One of its MOST IMPORTANT benefits is "clean sound," which is absolutely critical to the serius music lover. There are hundreds of subwoofers (price range $300 to $1000) which handle movie crashes, thunder, and other "white noise" crunches just fine, but are "boomy," "muffled," "confused," or "fuzzy" with music. The Sunfire controls, plus bass management on the Panasonic Receiver give me tremendous bass latitude. I generally put the Sunfire on 60% volume and the receiver on 50% to attain realistic, but extremely powerful bass.
Overall, I am ecstatic about the Sunfire. I would unequivocally recommend to any serious movie or music lover. It puts all subwoofers under $1000 to shame, and puts many subwoofers in the >$2000 class to shame as well. 2700 watts of energy more than exceeds my needs on my loudest days, when my wife is away and I need a super adrenaline rush.
CONS: There are no negatives. I am totally stunned with its performance.
