The Bottom Line:

The Bottom Line is we feel this TV is a solid performer.

My son, who is now almost 10, has had a gaming system of one type or another in his bedroom for at least 3 years now.  Typically he's owned either the Playstation 2 or Playstation 3 and needed a way to play and view games and DVD's in his room. His room is small and he has a small TV stand as part of a desk set we purchased him a few years ago. We wanted to find a smaller sized TV that would fit in his room and allow him to play his games and watch his movies.

I didn't want a stand type of TV as his TV stand itself is low to the ground and he still has two small sisters. I wanted something solidly built and that they couldn't knock down or move around.  We felt the Sylvania 6420FB 20 inch TV was compact, fit our needs, and was reasonably priced at under $150.00.

We saw this model in the store and felt the color and picture quality to be excellent.  It has a flat screen and everything we've watched and played on it looks really sharp and colorful. Even though he is still a child, he is old enough to recognize good color and picture when he sees it - and he's commented that the images are really nice.

Another reason we purchased this model was for the front audio/video plugs. (those lovely colored plugs you need to hook up his systems)  We owned a TV before that for him that had the hook ups in the back and when we needed to unplug or move the system it was a little cumbersome to turn around the entire TV.  Though not necessary, we thought having these in the front was a nice feature and helped sway our purchase to this model's way.

The TV itself is sleek in silver and black, and we all like the looks of it.  There are small buttons in the front for Channel, Volume, and Menu. The buttons are little, silver and like little upraised "nubs", which I find unusual.  They really press into your finger when you push them and ours makes an audible clicking noise whenever we use them. We notice that we all mostly reach for the remote instead for this reason.

The remote is a little bulky and wide, but good I feel for someone a child's age. The buttons are not oversized, but they are larger than many other remotes and the words underneath them really easy to read. I'd think this a great remote for younger persons and/or some people who don't like to squint and tiny buttons and letters. It also doesn't have a ton of buttons as well, so overall pretty simple to use.

As mentioned, we feel the picture on the Sylvania 6420FB 20 inch TV really nice.  We also really like the front hook ups and the ease at which both children and adults alike can use this TV. We felt the price was reasonable and affordable for what we were getting.

One thing that bothers me about this TV (other than the tiny buttons on the front and audible clicking) is the overall volume control.  When wanting to play this TV at any level the sound quality I feel is good. At any normal level (or louder kid level) the sound carries well and is clear.  The problem is getting this TV soft enough.  Often my son and I get into a discussion of where to put the volume so that it is soft enough. (say, when his sisters are sleeping in the bedroom next door)  When you click down the volume it sort of just quickly fades away, and we find a harder time finding the right balance making this TV "just low enough" that he can play and hear, but that the sound doesn't carry. You would think that turning the TV volume control down to almost the lowest "bar" or level would be sufficient, but it's almost like when it gets down to that lower level the sound just sort of cuts out and sounds like mumbling.

We've had this TV for a couple of years now and feel it was a a good investment as a smaller sized gaming and video watching TV for our son's room. Overall we've been pelased with our purchase of the Sylvania 6420FD 20" Pure Flat TV. 4 stars overall.
