Wow! You bought this toaster oven at a terrific price. What a bargain.
Thank you for mentioning the tip about the tongs. I never thought to use them under the grill. Using them that way would support the grill so that it doesn't tip. Now why didn't I think of that? :)
Enjoy your day,

Good review, good oven (Reply to this comment)
by markiv
Very thorough review. I love this oven, although I have not tried the convection feature yet. Recently made a lot of garlic bread loaves (Superbowl potluck), the pre-made foil enclosed kind. You need to slice them in half and wrap the end in foil, but it was absolutely great for this.
I also bought at JC Penney on post-Christmas clearance for $59.99. It is one heckuva deal at that price.
I learned quickly to use the tongs under, rather than from above, the grill. Then it is fine. I do find the fit of the internal pans and accessories a little confusing, but they appear to work.
The controls are very well thought out, and seem to have a lot of versatility but remain quite simple. If you just want freakin' toast and stuff you should not have to master new technologies and languages, and that is one of the strongest features of this oven.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try reducing the time as you suggest to see if it makes a difference. Maybe I'll win that cook-off yet. :)
Wishing you a terrific day,

Dawn,
In most cases, simply reduce the time in a convection oven by 1/4 to start. The advantage of a convection oven is the heating so much more even due to the hot air being circulated throughout the entire oven. This allows things to cook faster, better browning, crispier exteriors, etc. And, placement of items within the oven becomes non-critical. This allows you to load the oven up, even stacking things.
While traveling throughout France, we noticed that even the small mom/pop patisseries in small towns use convection ovens. A small bakery can produce more baked goods per day just by going to a convection oven due to the faster baking times, more even baking and larger loads. Those were the best croissants we ever had in our lives!
We have a new dual-fuel range (gas cook top, electric convection oven) and it works great, too. We use the DeLonghi for small jobs and the range oven for big things like turkey, large cakes, multiple trays of cookies, etc.

Hi! I can cook great in a regular oven ... it's the convection feature that I'm still getting used to. Guess I'm not the only person challenged by this method of cooking.
Enjoy your day,

Hmmmm . . . . . . We have the DeLonghi convection oven and we love it for the "fan/bake" cycle. It is about 1/4 to 1/3 faster and it is terrific for baking and for reheating of foods, especially fried foods. French fries, fried shrimp, fried chicken, crispy fried calamari, tempura - all can be done on a wire screen or rack without turning and they come out beautifully crisp, sometimes even better than the original.
The exterior browns better and without turning than in a conventional oven. It is great for meat loaf, muffins, small breads/cakes, small frozen pizzas, etc.
We use it a lot more for reheating and baking/roasting than for toasting. We have a conventional toaster for toasting and it is faster.

Also, the new models of this DeLonghi come in either a digital control panel or retro style but they are, essentially, the same working oven.
You can also do a search on Epinions for DeLonghi Convection Ovens and you will get quite a few reviews - mostly highly favorable.

This is a handsome toaster oven! I've never tried convection cooking - apparently it takes some practice :) I like the pull out crumb tray. My toaster oven has an inconvenient, pull down affair. I'm going to keep this model in mind.
Great review!

Great Review!!! (Reply to this comment)

Great review!!!
For a while, I contemplated getting this oven!
I saw it online at ChefsCatalog.com. It shows a cooked roast in it.
But instead, I saw the Flavor Wave Convection Oven in a infommercial and bought that.
I wish that Epinions.com would post it for reviews. That and the Rival BBQ Pit Countertop Slow Cooker. I've asked them several times and have gotten nowhere.
Hopefully, one of them will read this comment from me and post those two products for review. I certainly want to let people know how great they are!
Again, great review!! Keep up the good work.
