Pros: Nice device when it works the way it should.
Cons: Unreliable network. The folks at T-Mobile are the most unpleasant I have ever dealt with.
The Bottom Line: Nice product, but unreliable service and dreadful "customer" service from T-Mobile.

The Sidekick could be a useful product, but mine has been unreliable. First, I had a problem in Dec., 2004, with the unit not holding a charge. I dealt with T-Mobile, who sold me the Sidekick and provides the data service to customers. It took 12 days for me to receive a replacement, and then it turned out the problem was the charging cord, not the unit itself. Of course, T-Mobile did not include a new cord with the replacement, so I could not use the Sidekick until I got a new cord. Then, in early March, 2005, the entire data network was down for a full week. There were lots of postings on websites and newspaper articles about this failure.
Now a word about T-Mobile. In my entire life, no company has ever treated me so poorly. I called several times about not being able to use the Sidekick to obtain my home e-mail. At first, the T-Mobile employees seemed to know nothing about this and not to care much either. My first phone call lasted one hour, with no help. My second call two days later lasted fifty minutes. The T-Mobile representatives were not at all helpful and I found them downright nasty. With the entire data network down for so many days, you'd think they would be a little nicer to their customers. I bought the Sidekick to save me time--not so I could spend many hours on the phone with T-Mobile employees (who are being paid by T-Mobile for their time, while I am not.) T-Mobile employees must think their customers like being put on hold for a long time, because that's what they did with me every time I called.
While the matter was eventually resolved, I have no confidence in the reliability of the Sidekick network and I literally dread the prospect of having to deal with T-Mobile's "customer service" dept. again. (Please note that there is a monthly service fee, of course, in addition to the price I listed for the Sidekick.)
