| cheetah1's Full Review: Tacoma Dr12 Guitar with Case |
I have owned this Tacoma DR12 guitar for about a year now. It is manufactured in the northwest of America by a guitar company that has not been in business that long. Tacoma was involved in other wood working projects for decades and the guitar division is a branching out business wise for this company.
The guitar itself is a satin finished, solid spruce topped, solid rosewood dreadnaught guitar. The grade of spruce used on the top is very good, better than on any inexpensive imports with a nice tight grain. The guitar has an abalone sound hole ring with abalone dot inlays on the neck. The guitars neck seems a bit chunky for me. If you like thinner necks similar to an electric guitar this will not be the guitar for you.
The satin finish on the guitar does not photograph as well as a gloss coat but it is very beautiful to look at. The finish is flawless and impressive.
The guitar sounds boomy like a Martin guitar and the tone is very beautiful of course. The guitar has the original elixir strings which are a bit to loud for my tastes. I have some new phosphor bronze strings that will be installed soon. Because of the rather thick neck the guitar feels larger than it actually is while playing.
The guitar comes with a new high quality hard case.
If you are looking for a solid rosewood, spruce topped acoustic guitar made in the good old USA that is at the same quality level as a Martin and affordable to boot than the Tacoma is really the only way to go. Tacoma offers the most bang for buck of any of the top American guitar manufacturers. Check Tacoma out first before you pay hundreds more for a Taylor or Martin acoustic. Trust me!
