I have been using DVD-R and DVD+R discs in my Pacific Digital 8x dual-format recorder for several months but wanted to try DVD+RW. For that, I got a TDK DVD+RW disc.
Packaging
The disc comes in a well-made sturdy jewel case. I believe they are available in a pack of five or ten. I got one disc from my brother, who got it by mistake (his recorder only supports DVD-R and DVD-RW, but not the "plus" media).
The disc has silver outer side, which you can write on using a water-soluable marker (I don't recommend Sharpie or any other solvent-based marker for fear of them damaging the dye).
Recording Speed
The disc I got is rated at 2.4x recording and that was exactly the speed my recorder burned it at. At that speed, the data verification after the burn was completed successfully and the disc played in my DVD player stably.
DVD Video
First, I wanted to see if my Panasonic S35 DVD player would play a DVD-Video recording made on this disc. After making a copy of one of my DVD titles, using DVD Shrink and Nero 5.5, I put the disc in my DVD player.
The time it took the player to read the disc seemed slightly longer than usual, but the disc played without a hiccup and did so repeatedly. Finally I have a re-writable DVD disc that plays in my DVD player!
The disc was recorded at 2.4x and took some extra time for Nero to format prior to recording.
Data
The data recording in Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.2 was easy (the same as CD) and also was conducted at 2.4x. The resulting disc was read successfully.
Conclusion
This TDK DVD+RW disc is a good choice for both data and video and it might even play in your home DVD player (it played in mine)!
