Disc Jockeys (DJ's) across America and abroad will always recognize the name Technics. If not, their DJ cards should be confiscated and the club's bouncers notified. Professional DJ's and high quality turntable owners know it's the innovative Panasonic behind the company Technics. Simply saying the name Technics can send chills down the spine's of consumers looking for groundbreaking DJ equipment. After the release of the initial Technics 1200's turntable in 1979 history was made as this series of turntables have progressed and found there way into almost ever venue of the music industry. In fact, Technics 1200's series, has become one of the standards in the industry as new and improved models keep racking up points as the Technics SL-1200GLDE's continue to raise the bar for those who can afford them.
Competitors are going to have a hard time keeping up with this turntable’s vibration-proof construction. The magnificent metallic black paint finished body of the turntable features the standard underside with the sturdy rubber legs offering maximum stability and control. No need to worry when the table gets bumped this turntable refuses to miss a beat like a skip proof CD player. The turntable also features anti-skate adjustment, and includes Technics slipmat and scratch mat.
The SL-1200's play 33.3 RPM, and 45 RPM records with brilliant precision. What impresses me most about the turntable is how the SL-1200's motor goes from +/-8% to +/-16% with the switchable pitch range, offering meticulous break beat control and versatility when playing various tunes. DJ's will appreciate the turntables computer controlled high precision pitch controller. The non "click" pitch fader makes for smooth pitch changing. The smooth precision of this particular turntable is second to none offering the right amount of power and performance I need when spinning.
The direct drive motor in the SL-1200 is a solid performer with superb production and overall set up and design. There is no need to fumble are look for No expense was spared for DJ's in the visibility arena as it features a blue LED cue lamp. I really like the location of the pitch range switch and the overall heavy-duty design of the turntable. The turntable weighs in at approximately 26.7 pounds boasting the following dimensions: height 6.63 inches, depth 14.25 inches width 17.81 inches, which is ideal for most deck set up tables. Once set up I think the most impressive thing visually is the SL-1200's is the attractive gold finish, and it golden 'S' arm. The traditional high torque is evident in the GLDE's as in any of the other Technics turntables.
Technics have kept in all the upgrades of previous models on SL-1200's decks including pitch control and added in a few goodies that keep them at the top of the food chain in the world of turntables making the SL-1200's well worth the added price. This feature rich system includes, an illuminated pitch indicator, a smooth recessed power switch allowing for easy on and off operation and best of all high quality audio cables and connection points.
Bottom line if you are a novice in the business and just getting started, I recommend you practicing on something else. This is a serious turntable with features designed for a DJ that knows what he is doing. After using Technics SL-1200 turntable's it is easy to see why Technics set the standard in the industry. Hands down, the Technics SL-1200GLDE's make my job 100% easier especially when compared to other cheapies that lack some of the sophistication and handling power found here. Although I recommend this high quality turntable primarily for professional use, bedroom DJ’s and intermediates will enjoy working this turntable.
It is important to remember that this is not a stand alone system and you'll need to hook it up into your mixer, receiver or amplifier connected to speakers.
