Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
This charmer of a 1989 film starring Keanu Reeves, Fred Ward, Bonnie Bedelia and other actors is a perfect rental film for a Saturday afternoon or evenings. Keanu Reeves (at a charming early 20s age) stars as Rupert Marchetta, high school dropout and doer of odd jobs, including helping his father (Fred Ward) with mining the Pennsylvania underground at odd hours.
As Rupert, Reeves cajoles and struts around with that adorable gait of his. When Rupert has an affair with the local diner owner, his father offers him work helping him mine the ores. It has been Rupert's dream to help his mother have the things in life she has missed out on; his wish is to sell some of the family land to get money. As a result of this, the plot thickens when Rupert conveniently kidnaps his father and isolates him in a trailer in order to take a ransom out on him and get the money to split with Mom. Futhermore, he wishes to run off with his lover, the diner owner, who assists him in the shenanigans. Does Rupert run off with lover Carla? Does the kidnapping plot work and do they get the money? How does it all end??
Replete with comedy and an intriguing plot, this film does contain some brief nudity and occasional strong language. Fans of Keanu Reeves, those wanting to see a film with a bizarre twist of a plot, and comedy lovers in general would enjoy this picture. I bid for and bought this film from ebay for less than $5.00. You can most likely find it there, at half.com or at your local video store. All in all, adventursome old time fun and intrigue!
