trevdoggy's Full Review: The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin by Kirk Franklin
The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin came about because of some difficult times Kirk has gone through. He is known for being very real and always allowing us a peek into his life through his music. This was definitly following in the path. I could hear the difficult times and how God got him through those times in his previous albums, but all I hear in this one is praises to the almighty God...a sign of joy and growth from my favorite artist!
This CD is different from his past few releases...it takes us back to his older CD's with "The Family" where his music is very Gospel focused. From the first song to the last, Kirk has taken the focus off of himself and his amazing abilities and put the focus on God, solely God. The majority of the CD is performed live, making me totally jealous because I have not seen him in concert yet...
The cd begins in typical Kirk fashion with a skit that helps him portray what is going on in his head. This skit is an homage to his mother and grandmother for the impact they each has in his life...he ends it by saying "Thank you momma.." as he walks onstage.
Hosanna
This CD begins with a bang on the song "Hosanna" an amazing praise and worship Gospel tune. It praises God for His power and majesty stating the angels bow down and the darkness gives way to His light. I have never found a song that allowed me to praise God so quickly without even knowing the song.
911
Kirk teamed up with TD Jakes, a famed bishop that seems to have some kind of a relationship with Kirk. Within this spoken dialogue set to music, Kirk tells the bishop about the troubles in his life since the events on Sept. 11. The bishop rattles off about how God is the answer to these struggles. The bishop reveals that he deals with many of the same struggles and that we all need God to help us through these tough times. Its a truly enlightening song that will grow on you with time.
The Blood Song
Donnie McClurkin, Jaci Velasquez, and Crystal Lewis team up with Kirk and his choir on this incredible song that preaches about us all being the same. The color of our skin and Jesus skin doesn't matter as long as our blood is red. Its so neat to hear the harmony between the races as the soloists (who are each of a different race, black, latin, and white, respectively) sing about how Jesus overcomes races and died for each of us equally.
Brighter Day
This song talks about the joy we get through Jesus when we truly focus on him in all areas...its a really catchy tune that you will find yourself singing as you are walking around shopping.
Always is a ballad that talks about how personal the death of Jesus is for each of us...he died for each of us individually and all of us as a whole.
When I Get There
Possibly my favorite song, this song has a great bass riff, especially on the first verse. The song is about Heaven and how amazing it will be to worship Jesus face to face, when we get there! This song is really fun and has a great infectious tune you will sing over and over.
I bought this CD the day it came out (like I always do) and it didn't leave my CD player for two weeks, except the day I made a copy of it in case something happened to it! THer are really only 2 songs on the entire CD that I really don't like. I was disappointed with the hidden track he did with TobyMac...after hearing J-Train (feat. Kirk) off of Toby's CD, I was really looking forward to that song...it left much to be desired!!
Kirk Franklin moves back to his roots on this CD by bringing his focus on Gospel music and praising God for how awesome he is. This CD is so encouraging...I have actually caught myself with a cheek to cheek smile and my hands in the air praising God on more than one occassion. Don't miss out on the rebirth of Kirk, its an event worth paying $15 for!!!
