hlbirk's Full Review: Time Marches On by Tracy Lawrence
Being a fan of country music you can't ignore Tracy Lawrence. His personal life has had many ups and downs, just like the rest of us. On the Time Marches On CD you'll hear 10 songs that closely relate to Tracy. These aren't songs about losing your truck, or your dog, or your best fishin' pole. These are songs that can easily apply in any of our lives where we've lost loved ones. If you make it through to track 8 you'll even get to an upbeat tempo about young boys!
This CD contains 10 songs:
1. Is That A Tear (3:18)
2. If You Loved Me (3:21)
3. Time Marches On (3:03)
4. Speed Of A Fool (3:22)
5. I Know That Hurt By Heart (3:24)
6. Somewhere Between The Moon And You (3:24)
7. Different Man (3:24)
8. Excitable Boy (2:56)
9. Stars Over Texas (3:33)
10. From What We Give (3:15)
It's impossible to pick one favorite out of this entire list. Track #3 Time Marches On is a great story about growing up on in a small town. The lyrics speak of a young boy's family that seems happy in the beginning but as Time Marches On things start changing. Sister's using rouge and clear complexion soap, brother's wearing beads and he smokes a lot of dope. Momma is depressed, barely makes a sound, Daddy's got a girlfriend in another town... The chorus states: ....the only thing that stays the same is everything changes...
How true is that in our everyday lives?
Track #8 Excitable Boy is a very upbeat song about a young man in high school ready to sow his oats. Kids are always getting into trouble and wanting to act more mature than they are and this song depicts that in a realistic but funny nature. Chorus reads: ...I've been a renegade since the day I was born, I get a little carried away. Never meant to do nobody no harm, I gotta rock it, I can't stop it, I ain't about to change...
What type of country high school boy wouldn't understand that? As a matter of fact, what boy in general wouldn't understand?
The very last song is very touching. This song would apply to anyone that has a heart. If you listen to the words carefully you'll be able to figure out a small piece of life. Who said money can't buy everything? Is it true? This song will make you think about it! Chorus: ...From what we get we make a living. Those dollars, diamonds and gold. But that old cliche is a given, you reap what you sow. When you reach out your hand and your heart, then your soul is satisfied. From what we get we make a living, from what we give, we make a life...
Every time I hear that last song I think of 9-11. There are people in this world that think the almighty dollar will solve everything. But think back and remember how many people were willing to reach out their hands and their hearts. Personally, I think that was much wiser and there was definitely nothing that a dollar could have done.
