I decided that I wanted something to listen to my CD’s on in my bedroom. I have a CD player in my kitchen and I can play them through my DVD player in the living room, but I wanted something that was just for my bedroom. I wanted something small that wouldn’t take up a lot of room. So I headed off to Walmart in search of a CD player. I came home with the Timex Stereo CD Clock With Digital AM/FM Tuning. This is Model T601GT. I have had it now for over a year and haven’t had any problems at all.

There are a lot of controls and indicators on this player. It has the following buttons: On, Off, Mode, AM/FM, Alarm Set, Radio Alarm on/off, CD Alarm on/off, Sounds Alarm on/off, Volume Off, Volume Up, CD Repeat, Fast/Skip Backward, Fast/Skip Forward, Snooze, Stop, Play, Preset Up, Preset Down, Memory, Time/Calendar Set, Hour/Month Tuning Up, Minute/Date Tuning Down. It also has a battery indicator light and a brightness control at the bottom.

Across the bottom it has buttons to hear the following sounds: ocean, brook, forest and wind.

The LCD Display has the following: Play Arrow, CD Repeat Playback, Date, Radio Mode (Preset Station), Clock Display (Radio Frequency Display), Nature Sounds, Sleep Volume, Alarm Modes, PM Indicator, and Mode/Band.

I have a separate alarm clock so I don’t use the alarm on this. I mostly use this to listen to the radio or CDs. It plays great and the sound is excellent. For those people who like to have a variety on their alarm this would be nice for them. You can wake up to the radio, a CD, sounds of nature or a buzzer. You can set up to 3 alarms at one time, which is great for a couple who gets up at different times. There is a snooze button if you want to have the alarm sound again in ten minutes. It will do this for a period of an hour.

This has programmable sleep times. You can choose the sleep time in 90, 60, 30, 15-minute increments. It has a large display screen with a soft amber lighting. I like that you can turn the brightness down if you want. I don’t like to have anything too bright shining when I am trying to sleep and really like this feature. This can be turned up to where it is all the way bright and down to where there is no lighting at all.

At times I will listen to the soothing sounds that it has on it. The sounds of nature can bring comfort after a stressful day. The ocean sound is my personal favorite. I can picture myself sitting on a beach with the water coming running up on the sand. The brook is the sound of a fast running stream with birds singing. I don’t particularly like the sound of birds singing though. The forest sound you can hear the soft sound of crickets and a faint sound of an owl in the background. It takes me to a place deep in the woods. The last sound is wind. I personally can’t see why anyone would find this soothing. To me it sounds like static.

Another great thing about this player is that it has a place to plug in headphones. This is wonderful if you aren’t quite ready for bed and would like to listen to some music without disturbing your spouse. You just need to make sure that you disconnect the headphones or you won’t hear the alarm sounding in the morning. This could be a bad thing for someone who may fall asleep with the headphones on.

This comes with a cord that you can plug into the wall. I really like that because I wouldn’t want a radio/CD player that only took batteries. This does take 3 “AA” batteries if you want to have a backup should the power go out. If the power goes out the battery backup will maintain the time, date and alarm. If the power is out you can not play the radio, nature sounds or CD.

Setting the clock and date is easy. There are simple instructions included. There is nothing on this player that I have found hard to do. The directions tell you exactly what to do and if you follow those it’s pretty simple. There is a nice preset radio feature. You can preset up to 18 stations. You can program 6 AM stations and 12 FM stations. This makes it easy to find the station you want quickly.

I also like that this doesn’t take up a lot of space. It stands 6 inches in height and measures 7 ½ inches across the top and 5 inches across the front. There is a speaker on the left and a speaker on the right.
