I picked up my Toshiba A45-S150 on sale at Best Buy for $1100 after rebate. It is loaded with the latest features. Built-in 802.11g wireless, 60 GB HDD, 512 MB DDR RAM, XP Home, 4 USB 2.0 ports. It is not the smallest or lightest by any stretch, but the 15" monitor nice. This is my first laptop so I can't say that I have a lot to compare it to, but I think it's great. It's fast enough for my basic needs of email, web surfing, word processing, and some spreadsheet work. The wireless networking works great with my Linksys router.
I also like Toshiba's software for controlling power management. It took me a little while to set up the desktop the way I wanted and it does come loaded with lots of software I didn't have much need for. But better to have too much than not enough.
Surfing the web via my broadband connection and the wireless networking is very fast and reliable.
It stays very cool even with prolonged use. The battery seems to last plenty long, but I use the power brick plugged in most of the time. The power brick does get rather warm but I think that's par for the course.
I like having all of the USB ports. It also has a parallel port if you need one of those as well as PCMCIA slot and an SD card slot.
I'm not a huge fan of the touchpad, but it works adequately. Seems to be as good as any other touchpad. I got a wireless trackman from Logitech to be my normal input device instead of using the touchpad when using the computer at home.
Not the lightest or the cheapest, but it seems to be a good value in its segment.
