| snyderj's Full Review: Toshiba M752 VCR |
I've owned a Toshiba M752 for about four years now and it has been a wonderful performer. The color is a dull dark gray and has a fairly large blue-green LED readout. It is a 6 head VCR, not 4 as the epinions summary shows.
The VCR clock is accurate and has a feature that allows you to simply be "in" or "out" of daylight savings time so you don't have to reset the time every six months. It also has a battery backup so you don't have to reset the clock after a short power outage.
You can program up to six shows for recording and it supports programming and setup controls in English, French and Spanish. One-touch recording feature allows you to press Record to start recording, then press Record more times to advance the stop recording times to on-the-hour and half-past the hour times. Programming times for recording shows is straightforward but in order to set a start time you must make an on-screen analog clock go forward or backward to the correct hour including AM/PM. So if you want to record a show for 12 hours in the future you must hold a button down for 30 seconds or so until the clock advances. Fortunately the stop time initially is the same as the start time.
The remote is programmable to various TV brands so that you can use most of the TV features (except menus and swapping between two channels). The remote is large but not too large or heavy. For the most part it's intuitive to use. The remote (vc-752) can be seen at http://www.vcrremotecontrols.com/Mfrs/Toshiba/ToshibaVcr/70012543.jpg. For what it's worth, codes for the remote can be found at http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/toshiba/VC-752.
I've really enjoyed the 2x fast-forward feature. You push FF to go forward at a typical speed or hold it down to go twice as fast. It also has a 2x play feature as well as slow motion. Another great feature is the super fast rewind: you can rewind a two hour tape two minutes.
