| firesgar's Full Review: Toshiba SD-P1200 7 in. Portable DVD Player |
Recently I have been doing a lot of cross country traveling and I was getting sick of seeing the same movies shown over and over again by the airlines. I had anticipated on being able to play DVDs on my Inspiron laptop but it became obvious very quickly that my laptop couldnt sustain its battery power for an entire flight while playing DVDs. Because of this I decided to look into purchasing a portable DVD player.
I shopped around online and found many models pricing out around 700 dollars which seemed a bit steep to me for a DVD player connected to an LCD screen. Interestingly enough, while searching Epinions.com, I came across SD-P1200. Its exterior design was very pleasing and the price tag of just under 400 dollars seemed reasonable. I purchased mine from Overstock.com and received it 2 days later, just in time for my flight to Seattle. I was very impressed when I removed it from the box.
It was very portable and it couldnt have weighed more than 2 pounds, which I consider to be very light, and the screen was noted at 7 inches, which is perfect for viewing up close in my lap. A feature that I noticed, but have not used, is its use as a regular DVD player that can connect to any monitor via S-video outputs and composite outputs and also using DTS surround sound. My flight was from Orlando to Seattle with a stop in Phoenix. I flew for about 7 hours that day and the battery lasted throughout both of the flights, however, I did recharge the battery for about 30 minutes in Phoenix. The picture on the LCD screen was superb for an LCD screen, but not as crisp as my HDTV at home. The sound is a bit questionable, but I recently purchased some high quality Bose headphones and I find the sound to be superb when using them.
Another benefit I like is that I tend to play MP3s on my laptop when I fly and the SD-P1200 plays MP3s that I burn to a CD. This saves me the hassle of actually taking my 8 pound laptop on the plane and allows me to stow it in my luggage which is a huge benefit to not have to lug it throughout the airport. The controls on the DVD player are also very clear and easy to use and even a child could operate it. So far though, Ive had the player for 2 months and have had no problems with it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a moderately priced portable DVD player.
Update: Ecost.com currently has this product for under 300 dollars with shipping included. A portable DVD player for under 300 dollars is a can't miss. Check it out.
