The guy who gave this Laptop a bad review, was mainly having issues with windows not the hardware. I formatted mine they day I got it and installed WINXP Pro and have not had any problems since with software. This laptop runs Office 2003 just fine, Outlook, and Internet explorer. Basically it can handle all current business applications.
As for gaming not impressive it can run Dark Age of Camelot but its a pretty low frame rate. However, if you want to play games you can do it much cheaper and faster on a desktop. I run SETI as well and I can process data packets in about 5 hours.
I bought this Laptop because I was moving to England for a year to do a Masters and wanted something I could easily take with me and take to class.
I bought the laptop at the end of July. I use it every single day, and it goes almost everywhere with me. I have a WL100 Asus Wireless card that works beautifully that I have connected to dozens of different networks with. The win modem is even decent I have used it with 2 different providers. I also have used the Ethernet on several different networks.
For those of you concerned about a lack of a floppy you need to get yourself a pen drive. Those are hard drives that plug into USB slots, they are cheaper then floppy drives and hold hundreds of floppies worth of information, I've used mine in several different computers Mac & PC and never had an issue with compatibility.
If your concerned about not having a PS2 port, most PS2 devices now come with a PS2 to USB adaptor so that is not a problem I have a device I use that with on my laptop.
The heat on this laptop is somewhat hot, but I run mine usually no less then 20 hours a day. I purchased one of those laptop coolers that put your keyboard at a tilt for typing. I don't take it everywhere, I just leave it on my desk at home for when I'm letting it run seti packets, they really do keep it much cooler and I like the tilt typing angle.
If you listen to music, plan on buying headphones or speakers cause the ones it comes with are horrid. They should have not had them and use the space to make the screen tougher.
The touch pad is funky but I have a cheap easy fix. Go to a camera or office store and buy a camera lens cloth, they are specifically made to clean surfaces you can't get wet or scratch. When my track pad gets weird one wipe and I'm back to new.
Never used tech support since I am England and formatting probably voided the warranty.
