True Romance Magazine is a magazine that has been around about as long as I have; and Im older than sin. When I was a teen I loved reading these romantic magazines because sometimes they swore in them and the topics were titillating to my teenage libido. So, when my sister (who is 15 years younger than me and not a teenager either) said she enjoyed reading them, I decided to get her a subscription for Christmas. She, in turn, saved them and gave them back to me to read and enjoy.
I had actually signed her up for a couple of these types of subscriptions and of the two; this one was the better one. It was better written and organized well. Each issue contains about four or five major stories; a poem; three or four shorter stories; a loving pets section; an editors pics; advice from Let Letty Help Aura readings: and a recommended book listing. Of course I cant forget that there are a lot of advertisements that usually deal with weight problems.
The magazine I have in front of me is dated June, 2007. Since June is a wedding month, many of the stories dealt with weddings and marriages. Some of the titles includes: Blood Diamond: Revenge of the Ex-Fiancée, Left At the Altar by a Two-timing Groom, Down Home Wedding (We Tied the Knot in a Barn), Empty Nest Turned Love Shack and Marriage Italian Style. Each of these stories was about 5 magazine pages long. Better than most magazines of this genre, the vocabulary is higher than sixth grade and there is less curse words spackling across the pages. Theres also less explicit or implied sex. Not so interesting for a teenager (as in the olden days) but good reading if you are looking for a brief respite from the daily grind and want to read a romantic short story. Some of the language is contrived to sound and target a wider audience (such as one girl referring to herself as a college graduate with a degree in science and then accepting as an excuse from her fiancée, You know how it is, Jamie. I have needs. And she is so different from you. I just needed a couple of test drives with another make and model before the wedding to be sure I wasnt making a mistake. But, the incongruity of the language also is part of the fun of reading these stories. The magazine also includes a couple of short stories targeting the baby boomers like the Empty Love Nest story and one in this magazine called, Never Too Late for Love.
The Reading of someones aura was interesting but not very scientific. Pictures are shown that have been enhanced to show an aura around the subject of the pictures. Then an explanation of each aura is given by a person named Jenny Smedley.
Let Letty Help has letters from readers with questions and then Letty gives them answers to their problems. Most of these are just an older version of relationship questions that teens ask in their magazine types. Ages given for the people asking the questions can range from 20 to 60.
Overall, the magazine is a good choice if you enjoy books like Harlequin. They contain stories that are easy and quick to read. Most of the magazines have titles that show the True part of the title and the Romance part is usually hidden in the front models hair or other pictures which means you could read this in public without many people noticing the full title. The covers are glossy; the pages inside written on thick newspaper type print paper. Most of the pictures inside are in black and white.
While I wouldnt recommend this magazine to all, if you enjoy this genre, I would recommend it to you. My sister loves them and I enjoy reading a story once in a while.
The price is $3.99 USA a copy and the subscription price was $14.99 on sale (I got the subscription online).
