datsunguy's Full Review: Visioneer LX200 Digital Camera
Pretty good camera considering the $65 pricetag. What's more, my original one crapped out after about 6 months. Developed a dead pixel spot in the imaging sensor. Luckily, I had registered on the manufacturer's website which automatically extends the 90-day warranty to a full year. Took a bit of pressuring, but they sent me right out a new one and paid for me to send the broken one back! The only gripe I have with the Visioneer corporation is that they do not post the drivers on-line. You have to PURCHASE a replacement CD with the software - what a headache. It is better to just buy a separate card reader and don't hook the camera directly to your computer.
Okay, onto the stuff you came to read about. This has been my primary camera for almost a year now, and I am very happy with it (for the price!) It takes decent, 2.0 megapixel photos, and the battery life has pleased me very much. The shutter lag is pretty bad, but after a few times, you get used to it - you just have to get in the habit of holding still for a second after you press the button. Although you do get some neat effects when taking pictures out of a car window or other movement!
I must say that the camera is packed with features. You can tweak the exposure, white balance, etc. The video mode is also pretty cool because you can shoot a continuous video until the card memory runs out! I shot a 15 minute video the other day!
One more annoyance is that the camera has no internal clock, this means that when you import the photos from the card onto your computer, they are all dated 1/1/2000. I downloaded a free utility that allows me to change the attributes of the file to match the date that I downloaded them to my computer.
I recommend this camera for someone who will mainly take photos outdoors, as the indoor capabilities (even with flash) are not very good. The minimum distance from the lens is about 4 feet, so you also cannot get very close to things, but again, for the money, I don't think it can be beat.
