todd7's Full Review: Xerox DocuMate 262 Pass-Through Scanner
I used the documate 262 in an office environment. The hardware is great. It is speedy, and very reliable about not double feeding. However, the software made it unuseable for my needs. It has an option to scan directly to a searcable pdf. In otherwords, instead of just a picture of the page, it also does ocr so there is also text that you can highlight and copy, or search. In using this option we found that sometimes the scanned documents would disappear with no warning. Everything on the screen would show that the scan completed correctly, but the document was no where to be found. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I called xerox techinical support and they confirmed this "issue" and said there was no work around. When we didn't use the ocr option, we didn't seem to lose any documents. Having to double check each scanned document to see if it really was there is not acceptable.
If the software was fixed, this would be the best scanner I have used because the hardware worked great. Unfortunately the software for my use is completely unacceptable.
