Pros: Is a powerfully LOUD motor a plus?
Cons: Makes terrible juice & soup. Expensive. HUGE on the counter.
I had to have this Vitamix 5000 Variable-Speed Blender after the demos I saw but I have not been able to recreate any of their recipes at home without getting almost inedible results. Also the recipes are not as healthy as they would have you believe. Ingredients call for things like: Mc Cormick's or Lawry's spice mixes, canned fruit (full of syrupy sugar), non dairy creamers, adding frozen concentrate juices, velveta cheese (yuck) etc.) Not pure and healthy at all.
Main concerns: 1. Juice comes out really awful. Carrot juice comes out all grainy, thick and mushy and so does apple juice. The juice also comes out warm (because you have to run machine on high and it gets hot) unless you put tons of ice and then it tastes really diluted and bland. So they suggest adding lemon, sugar or frozen concentrate juice. Now that's not pure juice is it?
2. The vegetable soups came out overly pureed and really really foamy. Hard to swallow.
Since soups and juices are what I wanted this for it fails big-time in my kitchen. Yes, the motor is very powerful - but so what - it doesn't make good juice or soup.
BTW: I went back to my little Juiceman jr. for carrot, apple and beet juice and it works better than the Vitamix for that. Also, some of the incredible over-the-top positive reviews here seem a little suspicious to me, from my experience
