Pros: Low price, fairly small size
Cons: Poor flash functionality, optics only so-so
The Bottom Line: I would spend more money and get a camera with better optics, better flash, etc. If you want 8x10 prints with decent results, be sure to go 3MP or greater.

| ardklg's Full Review: Vivitar ViviCam 3715 Digital Camera |
I've had an Olympus C3000 3 megapixel camera for a couple years (and like it a lot), but I was looking for something more pocket-sized to take on a recent trip. I saw the Vivitar 3715 at Walmart and thought it looked like a great deal - $158 for a 3 MP camera.
However, this camera had some serious flaws in my opinion:
1) The flash took FOREVER to charge up - usually 10-15 seconds, regardless of the flash mode chosen and with newly charged NiMh batteries. That means you can't get spur-of-the-moment shots in low light.
2) The range of the flash was pretty poor. Anything beyond about 10-12 feet away was poorly lit. My Olympus flash can easily light a subject 20 feet away.
3) The clarity of the pictures was only so-so. I know that the major SLR camera makers (Olympus, Nikon, Canon) have a reputation for better optics in digital cameras, but there was a noticeable difference in quality here between the Vivitar and my Olympus.
Needless to say, I returned the camera. I'll stick with the slightly bulkier Olympus.
