The Bottom Line: I wouldn't recommend you buy this phone. In fact Vtech is giving me another model from their line since I've had 3 of them that have gone bad.
This phone was an impulse buy because our other cordless phone was on it's last legs. We bought it for the color because we liked the orange face plate when we saw it in the store. Of course you can make the phone blue, yellow, or red as well by swapping the colored plates that come with the phone. The novelty rings are kind of cool but really not loud enough to be heard from the next room. Great if you have a small apartment. Of course this phone seems to be marketed towards the kids anyway so I guess that would work for a kids room phone or college dorm phone. I also liked that you could have the phone ring a different ring depending on the person calling you.
I'd love to go into further detail about how this is a good phone but I can't. This phone is plain worthless. When we brought it home we charged it overnight and then got ready to use it the next day. The phone would work for about a minute and then go complete static. The phone would freeze at this point and the off button would not turn it off. It would just continue to blare static. Assuming I got a bad phone out of the batch or a bad battery, I took it back to Wal-Mart where we got it. They happily gave me a new one.
A month passed and the same result came back. This time you could get about 5-10 minutes of talk time before the phone went nuts and locked into static mode. You had to pull the battery or place it back in the base to shut it up. The off button froze just like the first phone. I replaced the battery with a new one just in case that was the problem. However, it still did it with the new battery. I made a call to Vtech at this point. Much to my surprise, they were happy to send a new one right out. A few days later a new phone came in the mail. I switched them out and the new phone worked fine.
Guess what happened this past week? My wife said that the phone was messed up again. Sure enough the phone that had been replaced from Vtech was doing the same thing as the other two phones. I believe we got about 2-3 months use out of it this time around. I'm not sure what causes this problem but it is very frustrating.
Good news is that Vtech is going to replace it for the 4th time. So I can't complain about their willingness to make the customer happy. They even agreed to send me the 2451 phone instead of yet another 2434. I told them I was done with the V Mix phone for good and they were willing to trade to an equally priced replacement.
Overall, I would steer clear of this phone. It's a decent phone when it works. Although more geared towards the kids than adults. However, if it doesn't work then it's pretty much worthless to anyone.
