Get two ladies in the ring and you'll witness one hell of a cat/b*tch fight!
Written: Aug 06 '05
Product Rating:
Pros: The concept, game-play, graphics, some sound, control maybe?
Cons: More depth, save system, voice-overs, a bit on the easy side.
The Bottom Line: Rumble Roses doesn't really bring anything new to the wrestling genre but damn! This is one hell of a b*tch fight to witness and play!
jbrd's Full Review: Rumble Roses for PlayStation 2
Have you ever got tired of men fighting in the ring? Just watching them do the same crap over and over and they don't get nasty or even kind of play dirty. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if they had two ladies get in the ring with a passion of literally beating the sh*t out of each other? Have you ever wanted to see women go at it and actually wrestle in the mud and seriously get dirty actually looking sexy while doing it? Have you ever wanted two ladies perform wrestling-like moves but seriously look dirty as cleavage and butt-shots are seriously shown? Well, guys, your dreams have come true...well sort of. This is Rumble Roses...
Game-play:
As you may or might not know but Rumble Roses is a wrestling game where it pits two angry ladies against each other as they go at it and literally beat the sh*t out of them(and I ain't lying about that). The ladies get dirty and literally mean as hell when it comes to take you down and win. Although, ladies are featured in this game and there are no guys in it, ladies can enjoy the game but really, this game is made for the male race as many cleavage and butt-shots are shown. And I know many women don't really want to see that as much as the guys.
While, I stop chattering about the damn women:
There are two types of modes: Exhibition and Story mode. The story mode is just the main mode of the game which you choose the character of your choice and then your on your way to actually compete in matches to finally beat the Lady X--Rumble Rose champion. Also, this mode also helps you get more of a chance to know why the character of your choice is there to actually compete in the tournament. There are three types of Exhibition--Mud Match which pits two ladies in the mud surrounded by the beach, Normal Match which pits two ladies in the ring of your choice(Only three ring types) and finally Title Match which pits you and the champion of Rumble Roses and you can defend the championship belt if you have it. To do these types of modes for Title Match, you must have a title eligible wrestler which there is none when you first play the game. To actually play this mode, you must increase your face/heel(good/evil) status by a certain percentage which this makes us come to...
The Vow System is very unique as you can choose whether to be good or evil. You can increase your status to either one of those by taking vows. A set of agreements made prior to a match where those who honor their vows earn percentage points to enhance their personalities.(with enough enhancement, you can compete in the Title Match.) You do NOT have to do the vows but if you really want to unlock everything you can take the vows and you can choose whichever vows you want. Also, it's very unique as you have goals to do in the match. Also, by doing the goals, you can either good(face) or evil(face) status. Also, doing the vows, you unlock more fighters/characters.
There are 22 ladies to fight and become one. Only 10 are available to play when you start. You must complete one of the ladies story mode to unlock one new fighter.
Each lady is assigned to their own moves;(those moves are like grapple moves, strikes(punches, kicks etc.--and the submission moves where you must mash down buttons to get out of it) each lady has unique and different set of moves that no other lady has which that also makes you want to play each lady; but I did see that one or two ladies had a few of the same moves. It doesn't really hurt to see that because every lady DOES NOT have all the same set of moves. Also, the ladies do have finishers. The ladies do not have the same finishers so you can just chill about that. The ladies also do have different moves which totally kicks a**! Lethal/Killer and Humiliation. Lethal/ Killer moves are moves that help your character to actually destroy some of the opponents energy. Also, the killer is your character's signature move. First, you get these moves, you must complete so much energy in your energy bar to actually perform those moves. Don't worry, it doesn't take long. Humiliation moves are moves that cause your opponent to become humiliated. Also, that move actually may cause the audience to see more of your opponent and yours too; your cleavage or your butt. A big humiliation folks! Also, these moves are performed only when the Heart of humiliation is filled which is caused by performing submission moves. Also, beware! Your opponent can reverse these moves but don't worry, they don't gain it, they just distract your from it and guess what? When they distract you from doing it, that move you intended to perform will be gone and you will have to work for it again!
After all that game-play, it seems nothing is wrong. WRONG! Once you enter into the story mode, you have 10 matches(so far) to finish before you actually save the game! I'm like What the hell?. What if a storm comes up or even yet getting ready to go out, how the hell would you save it? And better yet, would you actually start the WHOLE matches over? I didn't think so! So, when you do the story mode, be sure you have time on your hands. Also, when you play enough of the matches, you see a pattern--a pattern on when to pin. Okay, here's the pattern that I found out to actually make the matches end quick. I found out that when you get enough energy to perform any move(killer, lethal etc.), you perform that move and bam! You can finally pin the damn b*tch(sorry for the language) down and win. Before, you can't pin her(she'll only let you reach to #2) unless you before those moves. That little pattern actually makes you win every match and it ends quick. But you can just ignore the pinning and actually keep going but please beware! Your opponent can actually pin you too after they do their move. Thus, when they do this move and they pin, don't bother mashing the buttons down to get out of it, it's no promise that you can get out of the pin. Damn, that sucks!
Graphics:
Okay, this is some candy to actually to be seen! The graphics really impressed me. Since, this is on the PS2, no one should think that this game would be pretty...to see. Actually, Rumble Roses has very impressive graphics as the ladies are beautiful(okay some are and I ain't talking about the graphics either); their butts wobble as they walk, their cleavage jiggle as they bounce, the ladies' hair just sway with their movement and the ladies just wrestling is just smooth textures with gloss. Also, the audience no longer look like cardboard people. The lights of the game(entrance lights) look pretty good(still, it's not too impressive as the rest), the three types of rings look really good. When the ladies get slammed, the ring bounces. Also, the ladies react when they get seriously hurt as they either cover their head when they just got hit in the head, holding their leg when they just got their leg kneed...everything looks too real AND too good looking for the PS2. It's very impressive indeed! It's eye-candy gentlemen!
Sound:
This is a mix bag for me. The music to the ladies' entrances are nice, a mix between a country-themed rock song to a hiphop/R&B song. The music is actually really good as it gets you in the mood(or the entrances) to fight. The regular sounds--the ladies moaning as they getting beaten, sounds from the ring bouncing, crowd cheering/roaring are all really good as it sounds so real. But something truly bothers me, the voice-actors for the girls can't act worth a sh*t! Their voices seem bored with no excitement or emotion to actually seem real acting. For one of the girls, she was actually mourning or whatever she was doing to actually think of her mom, she didn't seem worried at all! The voice-actors are very boring.
Control: Rumble Roses was a very complex and complicated game to actually control as there were buttons that didn't seem right for that type of move. The buttons are set like this; the X button was to run, the square button was to strike(the directional buttons to strike different moves), the triangle button was to grapple(directional buttons to perform different grapple moves), the R1 button is to defend/block while mashing all of the PS2 buttons on the controller to reverse moves. After you get used to it though, it seems pretty simple as towards what to do but still, reversing the opponent's moves are still hard as you just mash the buttons and hope luck is on your side to actually reverse the moves. Also, please don't play another wrestling game after you immediately play Rumble Roses as you MIGHT think the Rumble Roses controls are the other wrestling game's controls.
Camera:
There isn't nothing bad to say about the camera as it's behind the character most of the time while performing some moves, the camera does get in close to actually get you a feel of watching it as you are the referee. And again, there isn't nothing wrong with the camera as it switches between camera views to actually give you a really good view of the cat-fight.
Lasting Appeal: Rumble Roses doesn't have much depth in the game as it just has the exhibition mode and the story mode. The exhibition mode can last forever but who would want to play it forever? The story mode is at least good but really, you only fight 9 matches and then that ends...unless you keep trying every ladies' story mode that you haven't played yet. Other than that, there isn't much else to play. A weekend-rental at best!
Bottom Line: Rumble Roses is a very enjoyable game. I mean come on! Seeing two ladies fight in the ring or mud is actually worth playing the game. The other stuff is good too. The graphics really push the PS2, the control may seem hard and very complex but you'll get used to them and the sound sounds a bit too real but the voice-acting is a piece of crap! Sure, the game has it flaws, flaws that actually make this an average game but really, I would give it four stars but with all the stuff wrong with it despite all the fun I had, it'll get three stars. Please, you must play this game. It's extremely fun for the men but can be for the ladies too! It's just the ladies have seen their own cleavage and their own butts to actually wanna look at a skinny-a** girl and not to mention the big, round and perfect cleavage to actually make the ladies jealous and sick as they wish they had their goodies.
