| dandino's Full Review: Whirlpool DU943PWK Built-in Dishwasher |
So, I had absolutely no say in the purchase of this dish washer. It was part of the package in my new apartment. It's a small dishwasher compared to others Ive seen. Im not going to even try to figure out the cubic feet. But it has to be small due to the fact that we have a Eurokitchen. This just means that our kitchen is small, very small. Just big enough to cook in, but if there are two people you are going to be stepping on eachothers feet. So a larger washing machine will not work well in a situation like this. Now I was told that this washer was brand new with the apartment. I have no reason to doubt this.
Features
So
it has two racks (surprised?). The top rack can fit about 12-15 pint glasses and 8-10 cereal bowls. The bottom rack can fit two rows of 12 plates (sort of). The silverware compartment is different than what Ive seen before. Instead of sitting in the bottom rack, it hangs outside of it and fits into a space on the door when you close it. This frees up a bit more space for the bottom rack. Very space economical, however you sacrafice the space in the utencil tray.
There are several flaps that are in the top rack and the utencil tray. These are to hold down things in the wash, I'm assuming. Baby bottle nipples?
Controls
There is no dial, its all buttons with little lights, very 21st century and modern looking. Standard rinse only, normal, light, heavy, high temp scour
etc. A nice thing that it also has is a delay feature. The first time we used it we found out what circuit breaker it was on. The same circuit that the TV, lamp, and fish tank were on, ( maybe my computer too). We ran it right after dinner and the lights went off. So here is where the delay feature comes in. Instead of running it when we are home, we set it in the morning for a 2 hour delay (you have the choices of 2,4, or 6). Now it doesnt trip the breaker, which is nice. Now youre sitting there thinking
. Why dont they just set it to run after they leave? We are out of the house very early in the morning. While this machine is considerably quieter than other dishwashers Ive had in the past, it is still not the quietest machine to be running just after dawn. So the delay is actually nicer for our neighbors.
Does it clean?
Of course it does. It cleans stuff very well. I obviously rinse everything off quickly before putting it in the washer. And to be honest, if you expect your dishwasher to clean with out the slightest rinse, you are going to leave something in there for two days. When you open it up to put the detergent in, you are going to get a hit of stank. I use the high temp scour too be sure of two things, everything dries and everything is sterile, or close to it. I usually have a used cutting board in there that was used for meat. The other thing is to make sure that its dry.
Final Notes
There isnt that much room for the utensils, because it is tucked into that tiny space. They get very packed.
You can not put full sized plates in the middle of the bottom rack. The sprinkler arm for the top rack is actually attatched to the top rack. It does not pop out of the bottom like other models. So if you put full sized dinner plates in the middle, you wont be able to get them passed the sprinkler arm.
It is quieter than most others, however a little smaller. I would also make sure that if you get it, put it on a devoted circuit, it does draw a lot of power.
