| detectortester's Full Review: Whistler 3300 Radar Detector |
I am somewhat of a radar detector fanatic. I recently decided to try some remote detectors.
I have tried the Whistler 2270 remote (an older model), the Whistler DE3300 remote, and the Bel 975R remote.
The Bel wins hands-down on sensitivity. The next best was the older Whistler 2270, followed by the Whistler DE3300.
To be quite honest, the warnings provided by the 3300 allow you to know you just received a ticket, they are that short!! I have never been so underwhelmed at the performance of a mid-to-high priced detector.
Save yourself some ticket money and buy another model, it is nearly useless in my opinion. At Radartest.com they show it neck and neck with the other remotes, but my real world test shows a completely different story. (You should be aware that the author of the site is Craig Peterson, who openly admits to being a consultant for all detector makers except the Valentine One, so I tend to doubt his objectivity.)
On the bright side, the display is nice, and the warnings are ear-splitting (which I like). The display does tend to wash out in bright sunlight, though. Mount the display under a ledge on your dash and it will work fine.
Overall, I would only buy this detector if I never went over about 5 miles and hour over the limit. Any more than that, and I would say you're risking a ticket.
