| wkdf's Full Review: Whistler DE-1710 Radar Detector |
You may have read my review of the Whistler 1730 awhile back, it was a fairly positive review overall. Well I needed another radar detector for another car and decided to get the Whistler 1710, which is a scaled down version of the 1730. I was pleasantly surprised. It has all the same features as the 1730 except for the following
visual band identification, VG2 protection (useless except in Canada, Virginia and DC), rear laser protection (again useless) and auto mute. I miss the visual band identification although you still get the audio band identification and the alarms are such that each band has a fairly distinct tone. I dont really miss the auto mute because the city feature works almost exactly the same way. Now the perks, surprisingly enough there are a couple with this scaled down version. The audio tones are louder and the LEDs are easier to see in direct sunlight than the 1730s. Performance of the 1710 was equal to that of the 1730 in all aspects which is adequate, and its about 10 bucks cheaper. All in all I like the 1710 better for the above stated reasons.
