| jeff_ornstein's Full Review: Xerox XL592DB 19 inch LCD Monitor |
I just received this from Tigerdirect and am so impressed, I needed to write a review.
This monitor was bought as a replacement for my 15" dell flat panel which I had "outgrown", so to say. A larger display was sorely needed. Since the prices of 19" flat panels have dropped to the prices of 15" of not very long ago, I decided to go for it.
Set up was very easy. All you need to do is screw in the bottom of the metal base to the arm. Then plug everything in. I am using DVI. However, you will need to purchase a DVI cable if you do not aleady have one, since this unit only comes with a 15-pin cable.
After looking at the user manual, it appears the contrast ratio has been upgraded to 600:1, according to an insert in the user's manual. The monitor was automatically detected by the computer (a Dell 4600). I needed to adjust the resolution to the highest maximum. After that, I was very impressed with the way text appears on the screen. Also, I am seeing shades of colors I have not seen on the older, smaller flat panel.
There are no dead pixels from what I can see. And black really looks black. There is a superb menu system which gives you many options to play with.
The casing is made quite well. The four chrome colored buttons have a good quality feel to them.
The monitor has been manufactured in conjunction with ProView Technologies.
So far, animated images look quite good, with no significant ghosting.
Now for the negative. The speakers on this unit are so poor, that you will immediately plug your pc speakers back into the computer. Xerox just should have left them off.
This monitor does not swivel or is height adjustable. It does pivot up a few degrees. So far, that has not been a problem for me, as I feel very comfortable with the way it came from the factory. If I wanted such features, I would have had to pay $80 more from Dell. You decide if it is worth it for you.
All in all, this appears to be a really good 19" display. Xerox has quietly entered the already crowded flat panel market, but if well known etailers like Tigerdirect offer them for such prices, Xerox should be able to do well. This monitor is part of the Xerox midrange series. there is also a series 3 and a series 7.
While browsing the tigerdirect site, there is a MAG monitor for $20 less that looks like the Xerox monitor, except in silver. Check it out, it could be the same, as ProView may be rebranding the same unit under the MAG name. I decided to stay with a corporate name, just to play it safe.
Have fun with your new monitor.
