nax5's Full Review: YS - The Ark of Napishtim for PlayStation 2
Yes, the characters are all very tiny, as you will notice. This doesn't affect the game though, since it's meant to be like that. Mainly so the bosses you fight can be much, MUCH bigger than you. It's one of those anime games that you're not really sure about at first, and despite the terrible reviews, you still want to try it out. I thought it was a pretty decent game. There's random anime cut scenes throughout, which helps push the story along and keep you interested.
The graphics and gameplay is the only two things that really make the game stick out. The graphics are a chibi-anime style, but in 3D. So, to paint a picture for you: The environments all look like in anime, but from a 3D view. It's really a neat way to do things. When it comes to gameplay, it's really just an journey game. You head out, and fight monsters. Lots and lots of monsters. You have three different weapons, each with its own element. You can upgrade the weapons, and make them stronger and give them more skills to help you destroy your enemies. Your character gain become stronger as well. As you gain levels you will acquire more health, strength, ect.
The game requires that you train a lot though. This isn't too much of a problem at most points. Since enemies are abound in, and there's just so many you can kill over and over. At some points though, they push the limits on training, and make just basic enemies stronger than they need to be. I thought that weakened the game, since level grinding became to come a pain, even with the stylish real-time Action RPG battle system. That may not bother everyone though, and make others enjoy it more. It is a fun little anime type game that any RPG fan can enjoy. You'll just have to find a copy of it first though. If you don't look online, you'll have a hard time finding it in stores.
