I purchased this receiver last week from Best Buy. It was used to update my Harmon Kardon.
The Yamaha has component inputs and outputs as well as optical sound inputs and outputs. My Harmon Kardon did not.
The remote control is well laid out and allows you to control CD, MD/CD-R, Tuner, DVD, D-TV/CBL VCR-1, VCR-2/DVR & a V-Aux. However, the remote can be a bit confusing for powering on and off.
There are several sound effects the receiver produces,...Hall, Jazz Club, Rock Concert, TV Theater, Movie Theater, ETC.
It is a 6.1 Receiver.
The inputs are simple enough to understand. And there are enough to hook up everything you could possibly own.
The receiver is really designed to be used around a home theater system,....and in that aspect it is very good.
However,.....sound quality,...the crisp highs,....the punch of the lows that I was used to with the Harmon Kardon are not there.
The Yamaha is rated at 100 Watts X 6. My Harmon Kardon was only rated at 60 Watts X 5. But the Harmon Kardon was a High Current amplifier and would blow away this Yamaha. However, the features of the more modern Yamaha makes for a really good home theater system.
The THD is rated at .06 into 8 Ohms. So it is rated at a pretty clean sound.
All in all, this is a pretty good Home Theater receiver. But if you are someone really into sound quality,.....who must have perfect sound reproduction,....I think Harmon Kardon does a better job.
