mongo123's Full Review: SmartDisk ML-Dazzle DM-24001 Card Reader
This item was purchased several months ago, and was hooked to a USB 2.0 port. It took some fiddling with disc management tools in Windows XP, but ultimately I got it to work with a compact flash card for several months.
Then I got a camera that uses secure digital, and I tried to run it on this device. Following all instructions, the card went in . . . and locked the machine. I tried changing the port, rebooting with it in, rebooting with it out and then plugging in, plugged in with card and without, etc.
The card was tested fine on my laptop using a PCMCIA adapter. I then went and got my SmartDisk reader, which is only USB 1.1, and it read the compact flash AND SD card no problem using the USB 2.0 port.
The problem was clearly the Zio Dazzle reader.
All the above was clearly documented and sent to the manufacturer's web site. No response.
The product is junk, unreliable and spotty in performance. Under no circumstances can I recommend this nor any Dazzle product based not only on the poor product, but also on the lack of support and even any response to 3 inquiries.
