| headies's Full Review: iRiver H320 (20 GB) MP3 Player |
I recently bought a iRiver h320 about 2 weeks ago and i have been comparing it to the apple and the other hard disk players. On the Ipod (about $300), there is a cable for usb and firewire and a charger plus headphones which are included in the box. On the iRiver there is a USB 2.0 cable and a charger and software and a line-in cable and a hard case for carrying on the belt. The benifit of the apple Ipod (generation 4)is that you may easily shuffle through your songs listing using the nice click wheel which to this day nobody has duplicated. This wheel you turn clockwise to go down your list of song or vice verca to go up. On the iRiver you plug it into your computer and organize artist catagories and playlists just like you would on your c:/ drive. There is no loading software needed just plug in and load an play. the way you navigate on the player is simple, just hit the navi (blue button) key and it brings you to file , artist or songs settings. If you choose the file setting, you will see the file heirarchy just as you placed it on to you drive.
The most important feature that i like is that If you are a person who has friends who also have a large collection of mp3's on there computer you can load the h320 directly into thier computer and copy 50+ hours of music within about 5 minutes. And the ipod would normally change the format of the song going into your player , into a mp4 or something format while the iriver simply just copies it. The ipod Mp4 format is a read only format , that means you canoot copy or burn that file again you may only be able to play it on your apple ipod or through itunes on your computer. the i river does not implicate any restrictions like that at all. One more point is that if you have Rhapsody or Napster and you cannot burn or buy certain songs, on the iRiver you can plug a direct line in to your speaker jack and copy the track in real time without paying for it. :) Also there is a 300+hour voice recorder that is perfect for college students taking note in class. It acctually has the Quality setting in record sound to distingish the difference of the sound of a dime dropping to the ground or a penny. You can really pick up well on conversations or lectures from a distance. There is also a FM tuner that will pickup BETTER than you car's fm tuner. And you can record off of you radio but who listins to the radio anyways?
I work for a retailer selling iRiver H320's,Apple Ipods 20 + 40's and most of the other brands.ie creative older version and the Mpio's. After about 9 months of reasearching these hard drives i have found that for me and a lot of people my age 17-25 would enjoy the freedoms givin to you by purchasing the iriver over the Ipod. Everyone knows about the ipod but no one kows that it will copyright all of your free songs on your computer after you convert them using Itunes. Even older folks would benifit from the Freedoms give by the iriver but you might have a harder time figuring it out at first.
