| natedowg's Full Review: iRiver iFP-140 (40 GB) MP3 Player |
When MP3 players first came out they were all the rave, and of course they were expensive. I looked around for a decently priced player and found the iRiver iFP-140. Now I thought that this was going to be great and I at least thought so....at first.
This litte thing has many features and is quite cool for the price of it. For instance, it has an AM/FM tuner, a voice recorder, and the regular MP3 player. Now that may sound like a lot, and the voice recorder and AM/FM tuner parts are nice, but the regular MP3 part isnt so cool. Like most MP3 players, I was expecting a removable chip that way you can put it any specific chip that you want. Well the iRiver iFP-140 has the chip built in. not too cool for me, since i like many different songs. Also there isnt much memory on the built in chip. I think about 64 MB, which sounds like a lot, but compare it to just a little bit more costly MP3 players. I found that a few MP3 player that i found for CHEEPER prices had DOUBLE that of the iRiver iFP-140.
The iRiver iFP-140 is very small and stylish, but not very easy to use. I had to read the instructions manual many times before i found out how to work it, and still i found things that werent in the instructions manual...or at least not easy to see. It is also a little confusing to switch around the songs, set the clock, and surf around in the menu.
The software that comes with it is also really pointless. The software, called iRiver Music Manager, dosent help load songs onto the MP3 player at all. In fact you have to go to search in Windows Start menu, type in iRiver, and hope that something called "install Moodlogic" comes up. If it does click it, install it, and work from there (you just have to catch on). But if it does not come up, type in Moodlogic in the search window.
The battery life in the iRiver iFp-140 isnt too bad but its not good either. The battery only lasts 2 hours, and if your on a trip to up-state, its not gunna last you. A good thing, though, is that it only takes one AA battery. But other than that....its so-so.
