| hgrietkerk's Full Review: iRiver iMP-450 SlimX Personal CD Player |
I have bought the IMP-450 about two months ago and used it pretty intensive. Travelled with it through the Middle East and gave it some tough treatments in my backpack.
Before this player I had the Riovolt SP90 player and used this one for a couple of years. The player was stolen and looked around for an alternative. The IMP-450 draw my attention since it has a competitive price and delivers all you need for playing MP3 CD-roms. The design is great, the material used of a high quality. The player feels good and rigid. A very good development is having the control unit separately from the player itself. This enables you to have the player itself in your backpack while you have full control over what you are listening to via the excellent control unit.
What I love:
- great design
- strong metallic casing
- external control unit with good screen
- good sound
- upgradeable firmware (no new release until now)
- the player allows you to change almost any setting imaginable.
What I don't like:
- the way you scroll through the music is not always clear. Going up and down a directory structure is of course possible but takes some learning. It seems that the expected standard is not use directories but have all files in the root. With the previous player I owned this scrolling was easier and the main way of browsing through the MP3's
- the headphone that is delivered is pretty useless as usual with MP3 players. Buy a good headphone to really appreciate the great sound.
