Cons:taller than expected, not a multiuse appliance
The Bottom Line: Easy to use, compact design, great for holidays and every day.
I bought the Presto 3510 Waffle Maker for my husband at Easter after carefully researching the marketplace. The waffle maker makes a round Belgium waffle quickly without effort. Last summer we moved across country staying at motels where the staple of free breakfasts was the Belgium waffle. The kids loved flipping the waffle maker and ease of use. Unfortunately while you can buy the hotel style waffle makers for you home; you can buy one for less than $200, they do take up a lot of room in the cupboard. The Presto Waffle Maker is the closest thing to the hotel style ones but at a significantly reduced size and cost, around $50.
The Presto Waffle Maker is a compact design which flips on the edge instead of rotating on the centerline. There is a battery operated timer incorporated in the design which is easy to use but you really are supposed to rely on waiting for it to stop steaming as a better indicator of being done. The chief complaint on the design from the reviews was the battery timer but they don't take long and shouldn't be left to cook unattended anyway. The waffle plates are nonstick but need to be greased either with a cooking spray or wiping it with oil using a pastry brush as my husband did. The cooking plates cannot be removed and you cannot immerse the appliance so keeping it clean is just a matter of thoroughly wiping it out with a damp rag when it's cooled and allowed to dry before storing. The excess batter will crust and should be flaked off as soon as possible to avoid it becoming permanent.
We used the waffle maker for the first time on Mother's Day and each waffle came out perfect. The product worked as advertised and my son's were able to participate in fixing brunch. The waffle maker is hot very hot and while school age kids can easily use it they should be supervised at all times. My husband was pleased with both the design and the easy clean up as he likes to keep the kitchen immaculate.
When finished using the waffle maker stores upright in a cabinet or pantry between uses. While the waffle maker is slim, it is tall so I had to rearrange my cabinets to accommodate the waffle maker. Its about as tall as a box of cereal and fairly lightweight so I was comfortable storing it in an upper cabinet until I am ready to use on Father's Day.
