O-Grill - Excellent Tailgate or RV Grill - Looks Sharp
Written: Sep 3, 2011 (Updated Sep 4, 2011)

The O-Grill is produced by Pro-Iroda, known for high quality butane tools. So, no, it is not an Oprah grill. That's probably the most common question I've been asked in reference to the name and look/shape of the O-Grill.
There are two sizes of the O Grill - the 1000 (165 square inches) and the 3000 (225 square inches) - but note that grates are round like an O. The 1000 is the small one, and the 3000 is the large one, so be sure to note the size when price checking. The smaller unit obviously will cost less than the bigger one. I would suggest the 3000 for tailgating or families and the smaller 1000 for a couple and especially for traveling.
The O grill has a lot of space for a small unit, but it's not heavy. The small one checks in around 23 pounds while the larger one is around 25 pounds. The bulk of the weight comes from the cast iron grates which are high quality and hold the heat well for getting those "coveted by most" grill marks. The body is a high grade sheet metal with a high temp paint. Honestly you are better off with good sheet metal (and this is) than low end stainless steel which rusts out fast. Also, you get really fabulous colors with this grill. Mine is bright red and really looks great.
With the design on the O grill, it packs up in a small space. It's very compact as reflected in the photo. It will stand up on its own or can be stored or packed flat. Be sure to clean out the grease if you carry it standing up (or you will have a mess), or you can get the travel carry bag.
As far as the grilling, the burner is around the outer edges. You'll want to let the grill heat so that the cast iron grate is hot. This is the key to having even heat on the grill. The grate does get nice and hot and will grill mark the food easily.
For fuel, you use the small cannisters that are one-time use, or you can buy an adaptor and use full sized gas bottles that are refilled. You can switch around - maybe use the small bottles for travel and a large one at home (along with the option stand for wasit high grilling). The design is such that the grill is easy on the gas, so you get a good bang for the price on the fuel.
Food grilled on the O grill comes out quick and moist (unless you leave foods on too long). I've done the traditional grilled foods as welll as grilled cheese. Good results on all.
The price is higher on the O Grill and the accessories than on many small gas units. The quality, however, is better. Even the starter still works, and most of those go out pretty quick on gas tailgate sized grills.
The grill does have a one year warranty on all parts, but I've never had any problems with the O Grill. When I clean it up, it still looks brand new.
I get to check out a lot of grills, since I'm a grilling/barbecue writer with my own blog Barbecue Master and a web site - Yes You Can Grill.
