I've had my current computer now since August of 2000. We applied at Gateway and were able to get a Gateway Essential including keyboard, mouse, mousepad, monitor and hard drive. No printer was included in the package.

My Gateway EV500 Monitor is large as opposed to some of the newer ones I've seen on the market. The screen is slightly smaller than 15 inches. The main portion of the monitor rests on a small base, approximately a foot wide, that is hard to snap into place and set up if you are attempting this on your own like I was. The base allows the monitor to swivel or tilt.

Found on the front of the monitor near the bottom right hand corner is a tiny grey button to turn this beast off and on. A long rectangular door takes up half of the space located below the screen itself. Behind this door is the control function, a wheel, to change the resolution and adjust the color. You can also alter the size of your web page to look like the shape of a trapezoid, instead of the traditional full size page. Not sure what purpose this serves. To open this door, press slightly on the little indented spot on the door. Believe it or not, I had trouble opening this when we first got our Gateway. Over the last three months, I noticed the door mechanism is wearing and more pressure is required to open the door if necessary.

The power cords for my Gateway EV500 are located on the bottom back of the monitor. The off white cord is permanantly attached, while the black cord was found wrapped in plastic in the bottom of the monitor box, awaiting attachment to the monitor and electrical outlet.

The color clarity of the monitor is okay. The reds are red, and the blues are blue. I used to sit for many hours at a time in front of my Gateway EV500 monitor. After 2 or 3 hours, I noticed my eyes tire quickly. Also the monitor takes up about 2 foot of desk space and is quite heavy if handling the monitor alone.

Overall, this monitor serves my purposes. I can see the web pages, that is when my server cooperates and allows me online, LOL. The only negative aspect of this monitor is it is heavy and bulky. Not to mention the viewable size of the screen is 14.7 inches I believe.

A handy guide was also provided to help me get to know and understand all of the functions in the Gateway EV500 monitor. Of course I didn't look through the manual.

I have to recommend this monitor for anyone with a computer. It cleans up easily with a soft wet rag. As far as monitors go, this serves my purpose and I have no complaints as of yet. This would make a nice monitor for a teenager or anyone with limited funds.
