Pros: Super sturdy, simple to use, full 120 lumen brightness.
Cons: Very heavy.
The Rayovac Industrial Grade "Virtually Indestructible" LED 3AAA Flashlight, item # DIY3AAA-B, UPC# 012800515578, retail price $17.99, has a lifetime warranty according to the retail packaging. It comes with 3 Rayovac AAA batteries already installed with a round cardboard tab inside it to block electrical contact until you are ready to activate it for the first time.
It is rated 120 Lumens on high, 19 Lumens on low, 30 foot drop tested, 5 hours battery life on high, 40 hours battery life on high. The Virtually Indestructible Rayovac DIY3AAA-B Flashlight has a rubberized front head and rubberized tailcap to help protect it from drops. Unlike most other aluminum LED flashlights, this one, even to a modest degree, is not built for self defense because of the rubber ends, although the whole thing is heavy and has a very substantial feel to it.
The machining of the tailcap threads is rock solid and has a smooth action. The lens is clean and without problems. The front head is anti-roll, but it is not adjustable -- no spot to flood adjustment. There is no serial number on the outside of the tube. One side states "RAYOVAC" painted, but not engraved.
Compared to other 3 AAA LED flashlights, the Virtually Indestructible Rayovac DIY3AAA-B Flashlight is the largest and heaviest I own. It is a half inch longer than the Brinkman 809-1018, thicker, and much heavier. It is about an inch longer than the NEBO REDLINE LED Flashlight, and thicker. And it is massive compared to any generic 3 AAA LED flashlight found hanging near store checkouts.
As for actual brightness, it is less bright than the 220 Lumen NEBO REDLINE, but it is more bright than the 130 Lumen NEBO BLUELINE. The RAYOVAC is about equal in brightness to the Streamlight 88033 Protac Tactical Flashlight which is also rated at 120 Lumens.
The Virtually Indestructible Rayovac DIY3AAA-B Flashlight's tailcap's HIGH/LOW/OFF functions very well. If you are looking for a simple to use 3 AAA LED flashlight that can be bright, or can also be set to a long running energy-save mode, and you like the feel of a heavy weight (think of it as the Hummer of 3 AAA lights), I can suggest this light as a fun light to add to your collection.
