Pros: A surprisingly large and growing number of things this Box will hold!
First of all, I HAVE to begin this review by saying that of ALL the sizes of Really Useful Boxes, I find it odd and funny that the 0.14 Liter box is the only one available to write a review on...I will touch on some of the bigger boxes as well, though...
I am a container person. I love all things container! That said, my first experience with Really Useful Boxes was with the 0.14 Litre Really Useful Box. Office Depot had them on on sale for a quarter a piece as a back to school item. For a quarter a box, I bought several, in the translucent purple and the translucent blue and a translucent teal color(may be called green by some?)
The first thing I did when I got home was play around with how the Really Useful Boxes operate. The thing I like most is that the Really Useful Boxes stack together very nicely. They can be stacked same size on top of each other, the bottom of the top one nesting in the lid of the one below it. They do not actually lock together when stacked, but they nest so the stack is not prone to "tippage".
Even cooler than the same size boxes stacking nicely, is the fact that diffent sizes can be puzzled together to stack. Picture a bigger Really Useful Box on the bottom, and maybe 2 of a smaller size nested on top, and you can tower on up, with the 0.14 Litre Really Useful Box/es on the top.
Really Useful Boxes seal, but that seal is neither air nor water tight. The seal is created by little hinged handle looking pieces that attach to the Really Useful Box. They are flipped up and lock into place on each end of the box's lid, there are little ledges that just out on each end of the lid. All Really Useful Boxes look pretty much the same...some are deep while others are shallow, but they all feature the same locking lid.
I started my "collection" with the little 0.14 Litre Really Useful Box. Yes, at about 2 and 1/2 by 3 inches, and only 2 inches deep, this Really Useful Box is as small as it sounds! Really Useful Boxes range in size from 0.07 Litres, all the way up to 145 litres! My experience is with the boxes from 0.14 to 17 Litres.
I can only imagine you are wondering what on earth you would use such a small box for! Aside from the obvious office supplies like paper clips and push pins, well the usefulness of this tiny box just keep surprising me! I keep buy them, since I keep needing more of the 0.14 Liter Really Useful Boxes.
I use them to hold my sewing pins, sorted buttons, beads...OH BOY! Did it come in handy to have an empty 0.14 Litre box, when a container broke that had itty bitty beads inside. I knew immediately what I needed to grab to prevent THAT mess! I have a 0.14 Liter box with the extra feet from my sewing machine. We used one to protect a Bluetooth earpiece while not in use. Another holds empty bobbins for my sewing machine, while yet another holds threaded bobbins. I have used them to keep small crochet Amigirumi projects together, until I could put them together. I use one to hold those little tiny Post-it Notes, another obsession of mine...
While it might not seem really useful, the usefulness of the 0.14 Litre Really Useful Box is only limited by your imagination! Staples and Office Depot always have these on sale for a quarter or less during back to school time. Make sure you stock up on a few, even if you can't think of anything you need them for. Pretty soon you will find yourself reaching for one for the extra Christmas tree lights or the screws to that bed frame you just took apart! Next thing you know, you will be buying more the next time they are on sale! They really ARE Really Useful Boxes!
While I really love the 0.14 Liter Really Useful Box, I have to say my FAVORITE size is the 17 Litre Really Useful Box! This box not only nests on top of larger Really Useful Boxes, it also fits really nicely into those crates designed to hold hanging files! I use a crate to hold yarn, and a 17 Litre Really Useful Box to hold a crochet project. Since the 2 stack so nicely together, it is really easy to carry a project, yarn and crochet hooks when I visit friends!
Really Useful Boxes are made of Polypropylene, and carry a recycling number of 3 on the bottom. If you manage to break a Really Useful Box, it can be recycled if your community has a recycling program for #3 plastics.
Really Useful Boxes come in an assortment of colors. I have only used the transparent colors of purple, blue, teal, and transparent(maybe plain?). The transparent boxes have clear transparent lids. The Boxes also come in solid colors, but I have never seen them in a store.
