Re: when you say angus beef is as good as it gets, that's somewhat true (Reply to this comment)

While your comment was valid, I did not come away with the same conclusion that you did from the review. I too tried BYB's on a whim, and I have to tell you... Those burgers tasted better than any other fast food burger I've ever tried! The ingredients were better, the taste was better, and was worth every extra penny. There's a BYB being built here in Baton Rouge, and I'm going to be a regular there!

You're correct on both points; any generalization can have exceptions. If a rancher gives their stock unsanitary feed or lets diease break out, the breed of cattle won't matter.
Similarly, if a packer doesn't have high standards, they might accept animals that other places reject (as ConAgra did). Some posted standards are much stricter than others.
I didn't say this (I thought it was obvious), but obviously the cut of meat matters as well. Hamburger from one breed is unlikely to be tastier than filet mignon from another
I tried to use the words "tend", "often" and "usually" to indicate that exceptions exist, but I appreciate you pointing this out separately.
Actually, I didn't say that the quality of Angus beef was similar to Kobe. In fact, the review mentions the price ($100 a pound) to indicate the degree of difference.
Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned it at all, but I didn't want to leave people with the mistaken impression that Black Angus was the standard for the world.

angus beef is USDA graded like any other piece of meat. angus beef can be the best, or the worse quality meat you can have. to say that "angus" is almost as good as kobe is misleading, or worse. Angus is merely a breed of cattle, not a standard of beef.
Also, when you say companies that process black angus often set stricter standards on what they'll accept, that's also somewhat true. ConAgra, one of the biggest names in agriculture, has an angus program. they accept low quality angus cattle, and processes them. You heard about those 200milllion lb of recalled beef that was floating around this summer, it all came from ConAgra.
