Baskin Robbins is part of the Dunkin' Brands, Inc.I remember going to them while out on dates with my wife years ago, many years ago. She always went for the exotic flavours and I was a French Vanilla and Chocolate man.
These were always premium in taste, texture and overall flavour.
31 Flavours
In their name they tout 31 flavours. This includes the regular and permanent selection of 21 flavours that will always be found in the Baskin Robbins clear glass freezers.
Here are a few of our favorites.
Jamoca
Mint Chocolate Chip
Rocky Road
Cookies'n Cream
French Vanilla
Pralines'n Cream
Cherries Jubilee
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Chocolate
Peanut Butter'n Chocolate
Besides these permanent flavours they have many others that rotate in and out of their ice cream list. That includes sorbets, sherbets, low fat and other selections. Their sherbets are especially good and refreshing. "I haven't found a Baskin Robbin's flavour I didn't like."
These flavours can be places in cups or cones. On Long Island a single scoop goes for$1.95 or a double at $3.35.
Add a few cents for waffle cones or a little less than a dollar if you want it as a sundae.
More To Order
Like all the competition these days Baskin Robbins is also into shakes, Bold Breezes, and Blasts. These are all different versions of shakes but I gotta tell you, the Kiwi Bold Breeze is "da bomb". Oh man is it good!!
Like Carvel and Friendly's they also offer cakes in various sizes. from 2-4 to 16+. I can't tell you about them because I have never ordered their cakes.
Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts
I mentioned that this company is under the wing of Dunkin' Brands, Inc and though you can find Baskin Robbins stores on their own, there is an ever-increasing opening of the two stores combines. I happen to have five of them within three miles of me. The companies web site states they have, "more than 4,500 retail stores around the globe"
The combination Dunkin and Baskin sure makes sense when you look at the busy times of each. Dunkin does an overnight business right through the morning and then the ice cream business starts up at noon and continues through midnight on hot summer evening.
The help in the places I have been to is courteous and prompt. I will say that there are a few too many who cannot speak English well. If I ask them something a bit out of the ordinary like, "Do you have a take-out list of flavours of the week?", they just don't understand. I get uplifted shoulders with the answer, "No Comprende?" Well they didn't use those words but I did receive a look like a deer caught in the bright lights of an oncoming car.
The jobs are definitely low entry and I am happy to see those who want to work legally, do so. But I would also like to be understood when doing business with someone behind a counter. I also feel that Baskin Robbins should give more than a fifteen minute break for lunch for up to seven hours of work on a job where the employees are not allowed to sit down. I thought that was illegal in NYS, but from what I hear, it's not. It's just not right!
MY Experience
Each Baskin Robbins is different. Those alone without Dunkin Donuts usually have some sort of line, especially in the evening. People like tasting flavours and take time placing orders. The employees work hard but it's a slow task. I'm sure carpel tunnel syndrome is a malady suffered by many long time workers.
I have found most BR very clean as are their rest rooms. The tables are wiped down and the displays in the cases look good. You are much more apt to find a table at the joint donut/ice cream places. Crowds of kids and families are the usual who are waiting or sitting at tables. It is a fun atmosphere with the kids sharing stories and families together.
In Closing
I have always liked the flavours of Baskin Robbins and I like the hours. Though I do prefer soft ice cream, Baskin Robbins hard scooped ice cream is very good. Most BRs nearby me are open with Dunkin Donuts so I can get a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone at any time of day 24/7.
