Pros: The ice cream is fantastic.
Cons: So hard to choose with so many flavors.
The Bottom Line: Great ice cream at a reasonable price. Plus, if a kid drops his cone, they'll give him another one free. Now, that's service!

I'm never terribly impressed with chain restaurants, but Baskin Robbin's is one place I'll gladly go. They have the best selection of ice cream flavors of anyone I've been to and they are usually pretty abundant in this part of the world. That's exactly what a chain restaurant is all about.
Baskin Robbins began as a company in 1945 and advertised that they had 31 flavors: one for each day of the month. Since that time they have added to that total about 970 more! Some flavors are seasonal such as the Winter White Chocolate and some were simply not very popular, so were discontinued. There are so many that are permanent that it would be too many to list, but my own personal favorite is the Gold Medal Ribbon. It is a mixture of chocolate and vanilla ice cream with a swirl of caramel throughout. Oh, does that ever take me back to my childhood! A close second would be the French Vanilla which tastes like frozen custard. They also have a "Flavor of the Month" each month. This month's was developed for the new Shrek movie. The first is called Shrek Swirl. It is a combination of Grape and Green Apple with popping candies mixed inside for appeal! The second is Shrek'd Out Chocolate Mint which has chocolate character pieces and green goo! Very appetizing for children, I'm sure, but I'll stick to my old favorites! If you are on a diet, no fear! You may choose fat-free yogurt or some limited sugarless features as well.
Other treats, besides the cones and scoops, are the sundaes, banana splits and specialty drinks. They have 4: Blasts, Smoothies, Shakes and Malts. The last two are self explanatory, but the Blast is relatively new. A Blast mixes coffee and vanilla ice cream together, then tops off with a bit of whipped cream. My recommendation is the Kahlua Blast which adds a bit of nonalcoholic Kahlua flavored syrup. The Smoothie simply combines frozen yogurt with fruit and ice. My recommendation would be the Strawberry Banana. These are both very flavorful, but not quite as heavy as the shakes or malts.
If you have never had a birthday cake from Baskin Robbins, well, you just don't know what you are missing. They are out of this world and my request each year. They are also wonderful for children's parties since everything (cake and ice cream) is within one single slice! The prices are pretty reasonable considering they do look professional, which is more than I can say for some of the cakes I've bought! What's more, they have a cake for virtually any occasion, a total of 120. My recommendation is the basic roll cake. It's cheaper than a regular cake and delicious. You can choose your own flavor combinations: any flavor ice cream with vanilla or chocolate cake.
The Baskin Robbins I've been to have all been relatively clean and I've never had any problems with the service except for it being a little slow. I had a roommate in college who did work at one and she said her wrist just killed her by the end of the night, so I try my best to be compassionate! You can imagine how crazy the place stays in the summer.
If you are looking for a great scoop of ice cream, you really can't go wrong with Baskin Robbins. It's cheaper than Ben and Jerry's and frankly, every bit as good.
