In the Olathe area of Kansas City, there seems to be quite a few different restaurants that you can choose from, almost any quisine or style. Sit-down vs. drive thru, fast-food vs. relaxed, cheap vs. expensive, and everyone seems to have their favorites. So when the question is asked, "Where do you want to eat tonight?" we usually have five different answers. In that case, we usually end up at Bob Evans.

Bob Evans - The Atmosphere
==========================================
Overall, it's a pretty relaxed environment. It's similar to Perkins in that it has a dessert counter displayed right up front so you can decide if you want to order something heavy, or light so you can get the dessert of your choice.
In addition, it is also similar to small version of The Machine Shed or The Cracker Barrel because they have a small gift section to browse through while you are waiting to be seated or waiting to pay the bill.
Basically, they try and give a "down-home" type of impression. Of course, if you have to wait a while to be seated, they also have benches right outside for you sit on if you prefer the outdoors.
We've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seated though, no matter what time or day we have gone.

Bob Evans - The Service
==========================================
Everyone that we have dealt with, from the manager and cashier, to the waiters and waitresses, have all been rather friendly. Several there have gotten to know us and always say hi, even if we aren't seated in the section they are working.
We've only had one instance of having to wait for more than a minute or two before our server came and took our drink order, and even then another of the waiters that we'd had before came over, said hi, and then "prompted" the waitress for our table to get her order pad over to help us.
The staff at Bob Evans seems to get along quite well, you will usually hear laughing around the restaurant as they talk with each other or customers that have become regulars.
And they are really good to the kids too. They make sure the kids have their own smaller menus, along with crayons and a snack package of Goldfish for while they wait. When ordering, they talk to the kids but always tend to have one eye on the parent making sure that the order is ok to place. In otherwords, kids are people to.

Bob Evans - The Menu
==========================================
Country style cooking. Large helpings, lots of rolls, and things you may be able to make in your own kitchen if you were so inclined.
My two favorites are the fried chicken dinner and the open faced pot roast sandwich. I must say that the friend chicken dinner is one of the best there, or anywhere. You get one or two chicken breasts (boneless) fried lightly so they aren't too greasy, and two sides. It's kind of funny sometimes when we end up with three orders of this and the two younger kids order from the kids menu. You can tell what the favorite of our family is.
The open faced pot roast sandwich is huge, you'd better have one heck of an appetite you want this. It's served on Texas toast and has a huge pile of tender pot roast over it along with gravy and two sides.
As for the kids menu, my kids change what they order every time we go. It's nice to see a place where they don't order the exact same thing every time. Sometimes it's the "Turkey Lurkey" which is sliced turkey with two sides -- similar to Thanksgiving style dinner.
Their other favorite is the breakfast for dinner routine. With the options of eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes, they can choose what they are looking for and be happy.

Bob Evans - The Prices
==========================================
Very reasonable for the amount of food you get at Bob Evans. We usually leave paying around $32 (including the tip) for the five of us. There aren't too many pleasant sit-down types of restaurants that will let you escape with paying that little.
Adults can usually find good sized meals from $5.99 to $9.99 and the kids are usually around $2. Of course these don't include desserts, but with the amount of food you get, there usually isn't any room left over for the dessert.

Bob Evans - Take Out
==========================================
If you want to have a nice quiet evening at home, but are really yearning for that favorite dish from Bob Evans you can call in your order and pick it up so you can enjoy your meal at home.
This is really great for those nights when you don't have time for a sit-down meal but you have to get something good into the family tummies. You can call ahead, pick it up on the way home from work, take 15 minutes to eat and head out the door for baseball practice or what ever else you have to do.
It's certainly better for you than the grease soaked foods you may end up with if you decided to just run through the drive through.
==========================================
Bob Evans - Cleanliness
==========================================
They do a really good job of keeping their restaurant clean. Whether it be the counters, tables, or bathrooms, I've never had to ask for someone to clean something up. In fact, I've never had to wipe-down my silverware before using it either.
When we asked about the kitchen one day, the manager happily offered to take us back for a walk through after we were finished with dinner. We didn't take him up on the offer at that time, but it was certainly nice that he was confident enough that he would openly offer to take us on a tour.

Bob Evans - Overall Recommendation
==========================================
The Olathe Bob Evans is definitely one that I would recommend. These are usually under different management so they can change from place to place, but I really like this one. I haven't had the opportunity to visit others, but would believe them to be similar up to the service. That tends to change no matter where you go.
