| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Bob Evans |
Bob Evans is a family restaurant featuring home- style meals. It was founded by Mr. Bob Evans, in Gallipolis, Ohio, in 1953. Bob began his business by making sausage. The business was a success and it attracted people from all over the state. People liked it so much that Bob decided to open up a small restaurant, at the site of his farm, in 1962. Today, there are nearly 450 restaurants located in 21 states, primarily east of the Mississippi River.
This restaurant has a pretty diverse menu selection. There is a breakfast menu, sandwiches, soups, salads, and dinner entrees. They have a Kids menu, with junior- size portions, and a Seniors menu, with low fat alternatives. There are also desserts to choose from, with some very good fruit pies and cream pies.
The dinner entrees are all pretty good. They offer various meats to satisfy your tastes, like beef, chicken, pork, etc. With most dinners, you get to choose two side items, to help customize your meal to suit your own taste. These side items include things like cottage cheese, cole slaw, fries, mixed vegetables, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, applesauce, etc.
Bob Evans is known mostly for its breakfasts and it is one of the few restaurants that sells breakfast food around the clock. It became famous for its sausage so it makes sense that the emphasis would be on breakfast food. I enjoy the sausage and biscuits more than anything else but all of the breakfast food is very good.
Bob Evans restaurants all have the same appearance and decor. The outside of the building is always red and white, with the restaurant name spelled out in yellow. The restaurant is built in the shape of a barn, to give it that down- home country feel. The inside of the restaurant is also designed with a country feel, similar to Cracker Barrel Restaurant, minus the country store. Service, for me, has always been very good at Bob Evans. The waitresses have always been friendly and courteous, and if something does go wrong with an order, they are quick to correct the mistake. Usually, they will give you something free, to compensate you for the inconvenience.
Bob Evans products are also sold in grocery stores throughout the midwest. They sell Bob Evans famous sausage, biscuits, coffee, and frozen lunch and dinner entrees. Some of these items are a little pricey in the grocery store, but they are all high quality.
This is a good restaurant to go to from time to time, for some reasonably priced, home- cooked food. It isn't outstanding, but it's pretty good food for the money. The original location, in Rio Grande, Ohio, includes the Bob Evans General Store and the Bob Evans Craft Barn, which are open year round. There is also an annual festival, held every year, in early October.
Overall, Bob Evans is a good family restaurant. It's nothing exciting or trendy, but it is worth an occasional visit.
