Anyone who knows me, knows that I really enjoy cooking. I mean, to me, cooking is like therapy with the added benefit that after 40 minutes nobody tells me our time is up, and I don't have to write any big checks.
But sometimes, I either don't feel like cooking, or simply am either short of time or ideas. That's when I want something good and quick. I want Boston Market (and there's one right in the neighborhood!). I love West Boca! Now some might say "well at least it's good for you." Well here's a flash. I don't like Boston Market because it's good for me. I like it it because the food tastes good!
What's to Like?
First and foremost there's chicken. If you don't like chicken there's probably better places for you to go. But at this household chicken rates high up there. So our favorite is the Rotisserie Chicken for 3. A whole rotisserie chicken with 3 large sides and 3 cornbread for $17.49 (unless they are running a special). Maybe a little pricey for chicken, but it's fall off the bone great tasting rotisserie chicken. Our favorite sides? Creamed Spinach, Vegetable Medley, Zucchini au gratin and their stuffing is not too shabby.
Not in the mood for chicken? Try their meatloaf instead. Not bad at all! They also feature Roasted Turkey as a Family Style Meal, but to tell you the truth , I find it a little dry.
I also recommend their Boston Carver Sandwiches. Rotisserie chicken, roasted turkey, or sirloin dip. Priced from $4.19 - $5.99, they are substantial stick to the ribs sandwiches. For some reason in a sandwich the turkey doesn't seem dry. Although we usually order our food to go (Boston Market is a little short on ambience), I will stop in for a sandwich from time to time. I bring a book.
Another favorite of ours is the Pastry Top Chicken Pot Pie. With one side it's $6.29. This is one mother of a chicken pot pie. But then you either love chicken pot pie or you don't. Boston Market's Chicken Pot Pie has a really thick but flakey crust.
The thing about Boston Market is that the food is old-fashioned family style good. I only learned of this kind of food relatively late, since my mother was a god-awful cook. I had no inkling that vegetables came in a color other than olive drab or that they could be cooked short of the point that they were actually spreadable. But that's another story.
Service at Boston Market is usually quick and polite. Definitely at the high end of the fast food venue. Is it fast food? Yeah, I guess it is, sort of.
What's not to like?
Did I mention ambience? Well there is none. This is not a place to go for ambience. So, take it home or don't complain.
Earlier in this review I mentioned "specials". Boston Market always seems to be running some kind of special. Maybe special pricing of one of their regular menu items or they may be trying out something new. Either way, it pays to look for their specials.
A few years ago before moving permanently to Florida, we lived in Buck's County, PA (New Hope). Driving home on a Sunday evening from NYC, we might pass the Boston Market in Flemington, NJ and decide to stop and bring something home. A popular special there on Sunday evenings was buy a Family Chicken Meal and get a second whole chicken for $1.00. Now that's special.
Long story short, Boston Market scores high with us.
