Pros: Vegetarian Burger! Great choice of sides, convenient
Cons: Unhealthy, not the tastiest food around
The Bottom Line: I don't make this a destination, but when on the road and faced with hunger I would take this over any other fast food burger joint because of the Veggieburger!

| fishifishi's Full Review: Burger King |
I never thought I would write an Epinion on Burger King, but after reading a couple dozen reviews of them over the past few years, I feel like I have something to add to everyone else, so here I am!
Ah, Fast Food
Oddly enough while typing the above heading, I accidentally mistyped it to read Fats Food. Freudian slip?
Fast food has for years been a level of dining that involves ordering semi-prepared foods, paying low prices, and being able to order, receive and consume your hopefully warm meal in under 20 minutes. No waitresses to tip, no reservations to make-sometimes you dont even have to get out of your car!
Having been a vegetarian for the last 15 years, I have found fast food to be the bane of my existence. On countless road trips throughout high school and college (and even since) I am the one person who pushes for a sandwich shop when its time to grab quick eats off the highway, because at a fast food joint I have been relegated to eating French fries and a salad of iceberg lettuce and perhaps some cabbage and carrot shavings. Hardly a meal!
Not to say that I dont enjoy good ole McDs French fries, but without something else solid in my tummy to soak up the grease, its a very unpleasant car ride afterwards. I can handle Wendys baked potato, but Wendys is a little less frequently found; also, I then feel I should get a salad to balance the potato, but I really do like their fries. Burger King has changed that for me-now I am okay with a quick burger joint drive through!
The Menu
Known for its Whopper and those creepy commercials with the King who has a stagnant face, this is one fast food joint that really has some choices. Chicken and beef burgers ($1-$3) make up a majority of the menu, with a claim that you can make it your way and perhaps slightly alter your fixings, which is always a great opportunity to make sure your food is freshly made. There are also a fish sandwich, a couple of types of chicken-nugget style choices, and chicken and veggie salads (around $4).
However, there is one item that this establishment has been offering for a few years now that has literally changed my life (albeit, not drastically). The BK Veggieburger. They use a Morningstar Farms brand garden veggie patty, and top it with tomato, lettuce, mayo and catsup. Its a bit pricier than the other sandwiches, at around $3 (depending on where you are) but I can finally eat a substantial food item when a food stop is called on a road trip. The taste is nothing exciting, and I tend to add cheese and ask for no mayo (again, special orders get fresher food!) to enhance my own taste preferences, but I can say that my veggie toppings are always fresh and the burger is never burnt or cold. Its been fun to be able to eat a real meal at a fast food stop again.
Its not to say I dont like the greasy side orders I can get-I just need to coat my stomach first. After downing my burger, I still have quite a few options to indulge in at BK Like many places, french fries are offered (I find them icky), but you can also order onion rings (usually somewhat bland, but the Zesty dipping sauce is really good!). Both are available in 3 sizes from $1-$3. I enjoy occasionally getting the container of 4 Mozzarella Sticks and marinara dipping sauce, which I must say they do quite well, for only $1.59! My father likes the Cheesy Bites (potato and cheese tater-tot like niblets) and that bring the number of side options up to 4, without even getting into the healthier items like apple fries or salads!
Beware of the Value Menu. One would think, when looking at the first few items, that they are all $1, but thats not true. Some are even close to $2.
The breakfast items are standard fast food options, in my opinion, including French Toast sticks, hash browns, and various egg and bacon/ham sandwiches, all pretty low priced at $1-$3. The Enormous Omelet Sandwich scares me, just from the commercials, and I hope that I never have to see one in person. The childrens menu includes smaller and less complicated burgers, chicken fingers, and macaroni and cheese, and any choice comes with a choice of side and a drink, as well as a toy for around $4.
All varieties of beverages are available, from juice to coffee and Coca-Cola soda products. If youre still hungry, theres a couple of milkshakes, three different pies, or mocha iced coffee for later.
All the Other Stuff
Burger King is all over the country, and although hours vary most if not all of them have drive through windows and are staying open later into the night. I have encountered a mix of cleanliness in my BK experiences, but have never been thoroughly disgusted when either stopping in to take out, or staying there and eating. The service is also varied from location to location, and if you order something special you may have to wait a few minutes, but I have no complaints, at least based on the last few years that I can think back.
Your meal will almost always been fast, probably be unhealthy, but most likely be convenient. Nothing tastes out of this world delicious, but neither I nor my variety of dining companions have been seriously repulsed, and short of the sandwich shop that I am usually outvoted on, this is the only place to get some solid food, as a vegetarian, in a fast food joint. Not to mention Mozzarella Sticks.
