BK is BS? (Reply to this comment)
by eWank
I have never been to Burger King nor do I ever plan to. But what I will now start doing is referring to Burger King as BK.
I think this is an excellent idea.
It is a dramatic saving of vowels and consonants and is a far more efficient way of getting your message across. Signal to noise is a big issue with me.
Over several converstations this is a substantial saving.
I'm a Micky-D kind of chick - BK - you're never going to get a chicken sandwhich anywhere near my mouth - I hope you're listening.
Perhaps one day - when I've saved up enough of my vowels and consonants - I might write and ePinion on them.
Thank you.

Review comment (insert worse pun here) (Reply to this comment)

I don't patronize BK either, but my boycott has nothing to do with the food. It's about community responsibility: any company that promotes such travesties of the English (and French) language as "croissanwich" and such products of dubious highway safety as miniature pancakes intended to be consumed while driving will not be the recipient of my limited dining-out dollars.

Big Fish (Reply to this comment)
by gkanapathy
I think it's pretty bold to order any kind of fish-based product at Burger King. I think it was less scary when it was called "the Whaler", because, you know, whale meat sounds more robust than fish meat.

I just want to add that my last experience at BK was identical to jkottke's! I'm sad to say I won't be returning any time soon, no matter how much I crave a Big Fish.

Have It Your Way, JK (Reply to this comment)
by oneswellfoop
Bradland's right, you ARE cute. But going for the Chicken Sandwich from ANY fastfood place with "Burger" in its name is more thrillseeking than I usually engage in. You'd have been safer duplicating your companion's Big Fish (unless she had a pre-existing reputation for consuming the inedible). Then you could've reinforced your reputation as a Big Fish in a Small Blog. (And that's MY pun)

Jaded Cynicism Noted (Reply to this comment)

Perhaps Mr. Kottke places to much importance on the "ambiance" and "edibility" of Burger King compared to the "nouveau cousine" he and his media ilk are accustomed to.
Perhaps Mr. Kottke doesn't remember the days spent in the back corner table sorting and trading baseball cards with other young boys, or even perhaps the time when his heart was broken for the first time by a little pig-tailed girl sitting on the bottom rung of the monkey bars and the only thing that made it better was that big cold chocolate milkshake that was made even sweeter by the occasional tear of love's first loss.

vegetarian friendly? sure they are (Reply to this comment)
by sudama
BK is far more vegetarian friendly than McDonalds... at burger king you can order a 'veggie whopper' which is a sandwich with lettuce, pickles, onions, tomatoes, ketchup, and mayonnaise. you can also request a 'veggie whopper with cheese' which is as above with the addition of cheese. the veggie whoppers are priced right, at around a dollar, and they're exactly as tasty as you'd expect. 2 veggie whoppers with cheese plus the biggest fries is a good vegetarian meal. at some burger kings, however, you'll find that the chefs did a sloppy job with your sandwich and in the process of constructing it managed to get little bits of beef stuck to the bun. gross! so check your veggie whopper carefully before you eat it, if stuff like that concerns you.

The BK Lounge.... (Reply to this comment)

Great review!
I completely agree, the food is a far cry from palatable. My least favorite part of the menu is the Chicken Sandwich. I can't help but wonder what parts of chicken were used to create the greyish/purplish meat that was at the heart of that sandwich.
