Sticky Buns

Written: Jul 29 '01
Pros:sticky buns
Cons:not a lot of variety if there's not a lot of customers
The Bottom Line: If nothing else, go for some sticky buns!

My husband and I ate at CiCi’s Pizza a lot when it first opened up in our town. Needless to say, we suffered from burn out pretty quickly, and that's not to mention the nasty little rumor that was going around about the place at the time. A few years have passed, and we decided to go back.

Atmosphere

If you’re looking for a place to treat you like Norm on the former show, Cheers, this might just be the place for you. As soon as you enter the restaurant, at least 2-3 employees will yell, “Welcome to CiCi’s!!” It makes me feel like they’ve been waiting for me all day! My husband, on the other hand, is painfully shy. I’m sure he is terrified, and worried that everyone is turning to look at him.

The restaurant itself reminds me somewhat of a high school cafeteria. You walk to the register, give them your food money, grab a tray, and down the line you go. There are two different lines in which you can pick and choose your favorite pizza. The last time we ate here, there were local middle and high school jerseys decorating the walls. They have now remodeled, and replaced the clothes with sports pictures. There is a large TV screen adorning the back wall. It is usually tuned to some sports channel or the news. In a small room behind the TV, you’ll find an arcade. I was in there a few years ago, and there was nothing to get excited about. It's usually full of little kids anyway.

The Price

The buffet, which includes all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta, and dessert is $2.99 for adults, and $1.99 for kids. Tiny kids eat free. The drinks will run you another $1 per person. Carry-out pizzas are also available for a fairly reasonable price. I noticed a couple of large pizzas sold for about $4-5, but I‘m not sure what kind.

The Pizza

When we first started eating here, there was a choice of pepperoni, ham, ham and pineapple, hamburger, sausage, cheese, white cheese, and taco pizza. Each would come with its own cardboard-type crust. Things seem to have changed a little since we last ate here. There was a little more variety in pizza. I noticed several pizzas with thick crust, and several with two toppings instead of just one. It’s hard to find more than two toppings on a pizza here unless it’s something like pepperoni and hamburger with some onions thrown on. I was all excited when they brought out the taco pizza, that is, until I tried it. This was not the same taco pizza that I remember. It used to disappear immediately after it was set out. This time, there was half of it remaining when we left. There is a dessert pizza also available. It has some apple goo on it with some baked on crust. It’s not too bad if you aren’t interested in the other desserts.

Other stuff to eat

At the beginning of the buffet line, you’re likely to find some breadsticks. They are similar to those of pizza hut, and they keep fresh batches out. They used to have pizza rolls with hamburger on the buffet, but they’ve apparently done away with those. They have all-you-can-eat pasta which consists of a tray of ziti. There is a salad bar at the end of the first pizza buffet line, but most people avoid it like the plague. The salad bar isn’t very big, but it’s more than one might expect to be included in the $2.99 buffet price. The second bar, which is directly across from the first one, contains various desserts. The apple pizza is here, along with a new, sticky bun-type thing. The sticky buns were really good. They also still had the bread stuff with chocolate goo sprinkled with powdered sugar. Obviously, I have no idea what it might be called, but it’s pretty good.

Recommendation

Okay. It’s not the best pizza out there, but for $2.99, pizza’s pizza. And you know what they say about pizza! (If you don’t, you can email me, and I’ll remind you. ) It’s a friendly little restaurant where kids and adults can eat lots of pizza cheap.
