Pros:Big, Delicious, Addictive
Cons:High Calories and Fat
The Bottom Line: Cinnabon Bakery makes delicious cinnamon roll treats that are high in both calories and fat, and worth every bit of them!
Cinnabon is a bakery establishment that specializes in freshly prepared cinnamon rolls. Cinnabon is owned and operated by AFC Enterprises, which also owns Popeye’s Chicken, Church’s Chicken, and Seattle’s Best Coffee. This is another one of those so- called “shopping mall” restaurants. Unless you’re located near a mall, you probably won’t be able to find a Cinnabon restaurant. In fact, the first Cinnabon was opened at the Sea Tac Mall, in Seattle, Washington, on December 4, 1985. Since then, Cinnabon has grown to more than 450 bakeries with locations in 40 states and 11 foreign countries.

Cinnabon offers one type of food: cinnamon rolls. You won’t find any other type of dessert or regular food here- just cinnamon rolls in various forms and sizes, along with a few drinks.
In the cinnamon roll department, Cinnabon offers its regular Cinnabon cinnamon roll, the Pecanbon, and Minibon. The regular Cinnabon is the most popular. It’s an eight- ounce roll, made with cinnamon from Indonesia, fresh dough, brown sugar, and cream- cheese frosting. The Pecanbon takes the original cinnabon and adds pecans and sweet caramel frosting. The Minibon is just a smaller version of the regular Cinnabon. There’s also a new item currently in the making, the Chocolatebon (as if the current selections didn’t already have enough sugar and calories!), which is going to be available very soon.
If the taste of Cinnabon has you hooked, you can also buy packages of 6, 9, or 15 to go. You can take them home and reheat them, in the microwave. They aren’t quite as good as the fresh variety, but Cinnabon addicts won’t care.
When you eat a Cinnabon, a beverage is a must, and Cinnabon offers several drinks to choose from. You can choose a pint of milk, a cup of coffee, or one of Cinnabon’s specialty drinks. One such drink is the Mochalatta Chill, a cold beverage made with coffee and chocolate, and topped with whipped cream. Another specialty drink is the Vareva Juice drink, made from fresh- squeezed fruits, and available in orange or lemon. Some Cinnabon locations have other flavors, too.
This is where things get ugly! As you probably expected, Cinnabons are high in calories, high in fat, and low in vitamins and minerals. The Minibon has 430 calories and 10 grams of fat. The regular Cinnabon has 670 calories and 34 grams of fat. And if you opt for the Pecanbon, the numbers get even more obsene: 890 calories and 41 grams of fat! These latter two selections are both 8 ounces each, so if calories are a concern, you might want to buy a single Cinnabon and divide it into two pieces to share with a friend. A four- ounce serving is still a pretty good size.
A better question is “What atmosphere”? Cinnabon locations usually have a small seating area, but that’s all it is- a small seating area. There’s nothing to it. Since most locations are in shopping malls, in the food court section, I would recommend ordering your Cinnabon to go, and then sitting in the large eating area of the mall. In addition to having more to look at, you will also save yourself a little bit of money. If you don’t place your order to go, you will have to pay extra tax, in most locations.
Cinnabons sell for about $3.00 each, with the Pecanbon costing slightly more. Drinks will add another $1.00 to $2.00 to your tab, depending on what you choose. So, each person can expect to pay about $4.50, on average, for a “meal” at Cinnabon Bakery.
Cinnabon has universal appeal. It’s very easy to be seduced as you walk through the mall, with the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls floating through the air. Who can resist the temptation? It’s very easy to get hooked on a food item like this.
My personal favorite is the Pecanbon, but the new Chocolatebon might push the Pecanbon off its pedestal. I like to drink milk with my Cinnabon, even though this increases the total calories to well over 1,000 for my “combo” meal.
Cinnabon’s food may not be high in nutritional value, and it may have too many calories for many members of the populace, but it doesn’t seem to matter, in terms of sales. Cinnabon is still able to pack ‘em in, allowing sugar addicts a way to satisfy their cravings for sweet, tasty food. A Cinnabon cinnamon roll is a form of pure indulgence: a sugar- laden concoction loaded with calories and fat, and no nutritional value to speak of.
Indulge and enjoy!
