Pros: That little peg game.
Cons: That little peg game.
The Bottom Line: All-in-all, the Cracker Barrel is the place to go if you want some of that Grandma's cookin'. Even a store to browse while your waiting.

The Good Cookin'
.....The Cracker Barrel offers a menu that is sure to please any picky appetite. There is an extensive Breakfast menu with everything from pancakes to cereal. And there's an all-day menu with everything from salads to burgers. I always dish out on a large Chef Salad. Good eats. They also have a kids menu for kids of ALL ages. Thats right. My mom and gram always get the kids menu when we eat there.
..One thing youll notice about every Cracker Barrel is that they are all built the same: the left side is the restaurant and the right is the store. The store provides something entertaining to do while waiting for a table. And the building itself is made to look like an old-fashioned place.
The Country Store:
..When you walk into the Cracker Barrel, you will be in the store. This is where you go up and order a table to eat. You can browse the store while youre waiting for a table. They might not have anything worth buying, but they do have some interesting stuff. There is candy and knick-knacks of all sorts. In one of the ones I went to, there was a large checkers board rug with jumbo size pieces to play. My mom and I played while waiting for our table.
..At the Cracker Barrels weve been to, the store area was always full. This was no problem, it was always a short time before our table was ready. There are large mens and womens restrooms in the store section, usable while your eating too. They are always cleaned, which is one thing that I look for when rating a restaurant. I hate going to good restaurants that have poor or filthy restrooms. The Cracker Barrel has won my highest bathroom rating. Now, off the toilet subject.
Time To Eat:
..Once there is a table ready, they will announce you name, or whatever you put the table under. When you pass over to the restaurant part, the environment changes quickly. The lighting is is little more dim. There is a nice fireplace roaring, giving that old country feeling in the air. Its a real fire, too. At every table is a peg game or two, talked about later. This is also another means of entertainment while waiting for your food. Anybody will say that they hate that stupid game, but deep inside, they really like it, but just cant beat it. We always have a battle to see who will solve it first. Now, you wont have to worry about trying to beat them if you go, because I have written the answer below.
..The menu will be sure to please you, too. One of the cons about the Cracker Barrel is the fact that it is hard to chose what you want to eat. There is much to chose from. I have listed the menu that is found at most Cracker Barrels at the end. To get more specific menu details of each item, visit the http://www.crackerbarrel.com online.
..The waiting time for your food is not too long like some other places, though the peg game might make it seem shorter, I dont know. The food is always hot for me when it comes out, I know its supposed to be, but some restaurants have flunked that part. The waitresses are very nice and the overall environment is great.
.....Food portions on the regular menus will surely be enough to mae you full. I can eat alot and it still fills me up. Sometimes I can't even finish my meal completely. My mother and grandmother both get something off the kids menu beacause they can't eat a full meal. And the kids menu will fill up the kids, and in this case, my mom and gram. So when you eat here, don't expect to be asking for seconds.
Bang For The Buck
.....I do believe that the Cracker Barrel gives you the bang for the buck. My meals are never more than eight dollars. And with the amount of food dished up on our plates, it is definitely worth the seven or eight dollars spent. You most certainly won't spent more than you should.
The Peg Game:
.....I know this goes off the beaten path, but I thought I'd talk about the famous Cracker Barrel Peg Game. When you go to the Cracker Barrel, there will always one or two of these little peg games at each table. These are great ways to stay occupied during that long wait for your food. You could say that this is a trademark of the Cracker Barrel.
.....For those of you who don't know what the Peg Game is, it is a 5x5x5 inch triangle block of wood that has 15 peg-sized holes in the top. There are instructions on the front and back on how to play and a list that tells how good you are. And of course, there are fourteen pegs.
.....The object of the game is to end up with only one peg on the triangle. You start off with one empty hole. From there, you keep jumping the pegs one by one and removing the jumped pieces. When you can't jump any more, you count the pieces left and refer to the list to see what you are. I have the game at home, so I know every thing about it. Below is a list of what you are when the game is over:
---Leave 1 peg - You're Genius
---Leave 2 and you're purty smart
---Leave three and you're just plain dumb
---Leave for or mor'n you're just plain "eg-no-ra-mooose"
.....Of course, there is a solution, and probably many. I have the solution and have posted it in this review. There is also a diagram of the triangle below to show the numbering of the holes. Under that is the number-to-number answer:
