| ssimon31's Full Review: Cracker Barrel |
The Cracker Barell after a while becomes like going to Grandma's house.....warm, inviting and best of all consistent. Being from Maine and moved to the more urban setting of Massachusetts, going to the Cracker Barrell gives me that sense of hometown atmosphere and friendliness minus the 6 hour drive.
I have only had to wait at the restaurant once in all the times that we have went. Maybe it's just the location that we visit is not as busy as some others. I can imagine it would be a long wait because I think people would be there like myself, for reasons other than just a quick meal and probably linger longer that they should.
We usually always have breakfast no matter what time of day it is and since we are late weekend sleepers the all day breakfast menu comes in handy. But, I have ventured from our usual fare a few times and have always been pleased with everything I have ever had. Their quality is extremely comsistent. Whatever they have for a system it is working because the quality does not seem to vary depending on which cook you have that day, like some other restaurants.
Some of our family's food suggestions:
The pancakes though scrumptious, will be hard to finish and will require a nap afterwards....we've learned to go for the french toast instead...just as delicious and less carb load filling. A side of ham is much more tasty than the bacon. when ordering the bisquits always ask for jam...they have excellent jam and a good variety...it's the icing on the cake! If you want it quick, order chicken & dumplings and your food is ready in less than 5 minutes.
Our kids love the fench toast, ham and mac n'cheese. For those cold winter days we have been very pleased with their Tortilla soup, Clam Chowder and Beef Stew.
Their country store is a whole review of its own! It probably is to ones own taste but I could live in that place!! However the prices are hit or miss. Some things I have been quite suprised about how good they were and others I was stunned at how bad they were. But, they do have excellent sales and if you are patient can pick something up post-season for 50% off. Probably best of all for us as a family, is that everyone of us can wander through the store for at least a half hour. They have nice toys for the kids...wholesome and some are old fashioned and sturdy, such as wooden and cast iron items. Another nice service is free wrapping. Since most of the people I buy gifts for share my tastes, it makes for easy gift shopping. They carry Burt's Bees and Yankee Candle lines and I find it much quicker to hop in there for something than to battle the mall crowd.
All in all you should find very few disappointments. The food, the staff and the store have been more consistent than any other place I have frequented.
