Stepping into the Cracker Barrel Restaurant kind of reminds me of something you would see on an episode of Little House on The Prairie: rustic wooden chairs and tables, bearskin rug in front of the fireplace, and kerosene burned candles at each table. Kind of makes one forget about television, microwaved dinners, and fast food burgers while been served in this restaurant.
I go to Cracker Barrel about once every couple of months (I would go more ofter but there is not one close by where I presently live). The food is definitely homecooked (and affordable) and has a wide selection to choose from. I highly recommend getting the beef stew which comes with corn muffins that melt in your mouth.
The service can be somewhat slow at times because the place is always packed (which means long waits as well). Until you are called on or until your food arrives I suggest that you browse at the knicknacks and such in their gift shop or to play with the wooden peg games at your table.
I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy a homecooked meal at a decent price and who does not mind a well deserved wait for it.
